Colorful brick and stone facades replace the original old wooden buildings that were torn down around 1900. They are filled with tacky trinket shops and touristy restaurants. The building at the end of the row houses the Hanseatic Museum.

Nestled between gargantuan snow-capped mountains, magnificent fjords and one of Europe's largest glaciers, picturesque Bergen is an ancient city with deep Viking roots. Founded in 1070 on what was a Viking settlement, Bergen is the second-largest city in Norway; for many centuries, it was the country's capital and in the Hanseatic League, a merchant powerhouse with ports throughout the Baltic. It's most iconic landmark is the gathering of quaint, historic wooden buildings of the UNESCO-listed Bryggen wharf.

fall of the Vikings during the 8th to 11th centuries. At the Captains Welcome Reception we met the senior officers of the Viking Sea and also were treated to a great show.

I signed up for a hydro facial noninvasive facelift at the Spa. (Hope this works). We also got to see all the different venues, like the sauna, snow grotto and whirlpool. I need to find time for this.

Shortly after 5:00pm we set sail for our next port, Eidfjord, Norway. I hope this beautiful weather holds out. We have enjoyed two gorgeous sunny days.
