Hello again! In answer to the age old question 'where are they now?' I can confirm the answer today is: Melaka. After a very quiet, chilled out 8 days in Kuala Lumpur, we hopped on a melaka-bound bus today and made the shorter than usual journey of just 2 hours.

We're staying in a nice place called Traveller's Lodge and we know it's nice because we took some time to check out a neighbouring hostel, which turned out to be a bit grim and made us appreciate what a good choice we'd made in the first place! We did, however, downgrade to a smaller room as the one we were originally given had a really hard matress and I couldn't bear the thought of sleeping on that for our long stay here (when we tried to rebook our flight to New zealand, the earliest we could get was 12 November). The door was left open to another room and when I spied a nice springy mattress inside, I couldn't help but have a closer look. No-one was booked into it so we nabbed it smartish.

This afternoon, we strolled over to a nearby shopping mall that was a decent size though much smaller and far less hectic than the ones in LK. There were some great little shops inside including rather more shops selling cushions than you would expect to find in such a small area.... Any how, in one of these shops I came across something I have been searching for, for months - a giant Hello Kitty cushion. It was an extravagant buy at 30 Ringgit (about 4.50 pounds!) considering we're trying to keep costs down at the moment but it was already worth it - I haven't stopped smiling since!

So far, Melaka seems like a warm and friendly place and the people appear to be much more laid back than in the capital, which is a welcome change. We met a chap called Jean (French Canadian) at the KL hostel before we left this morning and he was heading the same way so we all got the bus together (we already had tickets; Jean got on as a standby seat). It's nice to already know someone in a new place :-)

Time for a few messages to friends and family before I finish up here:

Linda - hope the house sale is going through finally. Please email me your new address and phone number when you're all sorted.

Jude's mum - hope you had a good flight to Germany. I'll still ring on Sunday as planned.

Edmond - hope you're having fun without Jude's mum!

Glynn's folks - hope the job is still going well, Mary, and hope you're on the mend, Keith :-)

Jason - thanks for letting us know about the photos not showing properly on the blog. How do they look now? Say hi to Aud!

Rachel & Karen - sorry I haven't emailed for ages. I promise to be in touch properly this week!

Judith - thanks for your many mad messages; you always make us laugh!

Maddy - how's college going? Hope it's all good fun!

To everyone else - thanks for reading and keep those messages coming!

umm
You were looking for a Hello Kitty cushion?? Wait, who was looking for it, you or Jude? If it was Jude then it's ok cuz she's a girl. Now if YOU were looking for it, that would make me doubt about your sexuality. LOL Just kidding. I'm glad you found it. :) Btw, I didn't know there was a place called "Melaka" I'm learning so much from you, guys.
