Walk
Nice walk up to the Monastry... About 45min stroll above Baba Sandas Ez here!
Well here we are... 2 weeks in Strumica!
Zoki arrived on the 15th - Saturday, we made the 250km-ish trip to the capital Skopje, to pick him up from his 24hour bus ride from Germany!
Interesting to meet him, and life has kinda set back into a pattern of doing well... not heaps, but getting around a little bit, socialising, eating (too much!), and generally existing!
On Monday we had a little mission to a 'Vodapard' (waterfall) and had an afternoon wander up to the base and top of the waterfall and gathering some gathering of natures bounty - self grown chestnuts and hazelnuts!
On the way home however, Lex found herself getting quite cold and a sore stomach... which being forced to eat a big tea only worsened! That night she had a minor temperature and didnt sleep very well!
Tuesday morning, the pain had moved into her side and increased quite a lot!! Spend the day in bed and wondering where zoki had disapeared to... Lex though she seemed to feel quite like how 'meals had described her appendicitis as feeling!!
At about 7ish, I got worried and consulted Vancho
Getting Zoki
Drive to Skopije! and Fanka on the closing time of the doctor... This stirred the whole family up and everyone buzzed around the bed for a while...
Bout 10 minutes later Zoki arrived home, started stressing and talking about how sitting/standing on cold stones is v bad!!
Corcho, Zoki, Lex and I headed to 24hour med centre for an introduction to the Macedonian medical system!! Turns out her body probably picked the worse possible country to get sick in... Macedonian doctors (to my outside opinion) seem overworked, undertrained, underfunded, not v in keeping with good medical practices (ie smoking continuously around patients!)
So first a quick consultation (semi translated by Zoki)... doctor saying he thought it was most likely her kidney - maybe a kidney stone!
Quick drive to the hospital for a blood test...
Back to the doctor to have the results interperated...
Back to hospital to wait and see the surgeon and assistant for 3rd and 4th opinions...
Lex was lucky enough to get a jab in the bum with a painkiller and some antibiotics, and told to come back the next morning for an x-ray/some kinda scan...
We returned at 8.00am this
morning...
Lots of waiting and a quick scan later...
Verdict: Not a kidney stone or anything obviously serious - prescribed some painkillers, antibiotics, and some herbal tea (of which she has to drink 2L per day)...
From what i can gather from Zoki, ee have to return in 2 days time when the infection has died down...
Then they will be able to definately tell if theres anything wrong with her appendix & hopefully should be the end of it!!
Worse case senario... it is something serious like appendicitis and she needs an operation: we will defiately head to germany (or at least greece) and claim on our health insurance (which thus far has not been worth it, only costing us about 35NZD so far, and we have a 75NZD excess!)
We will continue to keep y'all updated, and in touch... and look after Lex!!!!
lots of love!
xx
Oh and lots of pics from here and there!!
