Beach in Pucon, more photos to come
Pucon is the start of the Lake District and it is close to the amazing Villarrica volcano. I came here cause I wanted to climb it and it did! I got very lucky with the weather because all the days after my hike, the weather was too bad to go. We started the climb on a teleferic ( the only two people not taking it were marathon people so I thought I better follow the other ones). And hiked up on snowy ice mostly. It was soft enough that we didn't need the crampons. The slope was getting steeper and steeper and I could see how easy it would be to fall and slide right back down! The view wasn't just magnificent on the Lake villarrica and other volcanoes shaping the plain! We could see the smoke coming out of the top of the volcano so we knew which way to go ! Once we reached the top, we stood by the edge of the crater and could see fresh lava being spit out at he bottom of the deep crater, what an incredible phenomenon!!! It kept being deposited on the inside flank of the crater, it was not strong enough to reach us but we wore masks due to the fumes. After seeing this amazing geological phenomenon, we got our special clothes on and a bum sledge and literally slid back down. There was a path predrawn in the snow to make sure we avoid the rocks, it was so much fun to slide all the way to the bottom!!! I laughed so hard!! Amazing experience!!!
On my last day in Pucon, I got to meet up with Nathalie from Santiago who was here with her dad and we had dinner together at her hostal with other travelers, was a lovely night and always fun to meet up with people we met in other towns!
