The work ute
Me next to my new wheels for the week. Well its been another fortnight or so since my last entry. How time flys. At the end of my last entry i was trying to get my canadian drivers licence. Sadly this hasn't happened yet. Theres a lot of paperwork for me to sort out, and dealing with this made a very uneventful week.
But luckily during the week i got some fan mail from my good friend Kim in Wellington. Ok it was really just an email addressed to me, but it did say she liked my blog, so im calling that fan mail. Anyway......she also mentioned she had just celebrated another birthday and that her party was this weekend. However one of the stipulations of going was that everyone there had to put on a skit. Initially i considered sending thru a video but left that way to late, so i made a slideshow and sent that thru instead. Ive posted the title shot. It was called "20 years of the days of our lives in 20 pictures" I played Steffano. My roomate jesse played Marlena, as well as Sammi. We also had guest appearances by the "The Rock", Gary Coleman and Macgyver. I tell you the script

Who's this handsome guy. Why its Steffano from "days of our lives" of course i wrote could be good enough for broadway. It must have taken a few hours to produce but was fun to make, and im considering keeps the facial hair (yes i know its painted on).
Saturday wasn't the best day for me. I think the fact that id had a quiet week and that id had quite a bit of contact with home left me feeling a little homesick for the first time. But i eventually took a concrete milkshake and hardened up a bit. All sorted now. But more importantly saturday was pie making day!!!! Jesse can't handle marmite, or me putting an egg on my homemade pizza, or having a tuna sandwhich without salad dressing, but i was determined to get her to try a meat pie. She had even been to New Zealand a few years ago and didn't try one when she had the oppertunity. We found a shop in town that sells meat pies, but they dont make them properly. I mean who wants peas and carrots in a meat pie? not me.
So we went to the supermarket and got what we needed. I hate to think how much the pies cost
Homemade Pies
Mmmmmm pies. Im now on a diet. Ive found you can have too much of a good thing. us. Now while nobody may believe me, i was actually quite a good assistant in the kitchen. I dont think im quite ready to open my own pie shop yet but im not going to totally rule out the option. We ended up with 4 pies, with them being at least twice the size of a BP pie. But it was well worth it. They may have cost about $8 a pie, took us all afternoon to make, but they could possibly be the best steak pie ive ever had.
Monday was Thanksgiving here in Canada. So we got the day off (not that i had a job to go to at this stage) and had a big meal at night. I spent thanksgiving with Jesses family and really enjoyed it. Turkey is the tradional thing to have, as well as all the veges and salads you have on a big occasion, but we also had mince and bacon pie. Im not sure everyone there liked it, but i thought it was the best thing on the table.
Tuesday was my last day being a bum before starting my new job. I watched a fair bit of motorcycle
Thanksgiving Dinner
Jesse with her 2 brothers, their partners and me. Did i forget to mention that all Canadians are short. racing on TV before doing a bit of shopping for warm clothes down at the mall.
Wednesday came around all to soon. After having about 6 weeks of getting up around 10am a 5.30am start was a real effort. And as i had no car i had to get 4 connecting buses to work. I had 2 short days on wednesday and thursday doing inductions and introductions, and a full day of that friday.
I got a tiny rental car for thursday and friday before getting my current vehicle; a pool vehicle from work. Its a 2003 Chevy Ute. Its huge. Its got a terrible turning circle and is a mission to park but i love it. I havn't had to fill it with gas yet but with gas at 82 cents a litre i can afford to run the 5 and a bit litre v8. Ive posted a photo of me next to it.
Ive learnt a bit more about my new job. Next week im working in the warehouse before being sent up to Fort Mcmurray where the current oil boom is. Works organised me an appartment to stay in while im there, and im
Jesse's new jacket
"Do my guns look big in this?" on a 10 days on 4 days off rotation. The company i work for, Horton CBI, makes large tanks (storage tanks, not the millitary kind) and vessels for industry use. Im going to be an on site engineer, although i dont know what that entails yet. But ive got me a new pair of boots.
Last friday i went to a university volleyball game. I was a little bit dissapointed that it was mens volleyball (the girls wear short shorts from what ive heard). And despite what i would call excessive high fiving and ass slapping, the volleyball was entertaining. There was a real university spirit which we didnt get back home. It was 8pm on a friday night and the gym was packed full of supporters.
So tommorow ive got to be at work at 6.30am, and its an hour drive. At least ive got a cool truck to get me there. im not a morning person.

Sounds like you are having a great time, tell Jesse to slap you around a bit every now and then to keep you in line =). Congrats with the new job you have to let us know how it all goes. The work truck looks a bit bigger than the old esky!
