Water above, below and falling

I don't remember where I first heard about Lake Plitvice, but it has been on my list for a while. My mother's trip was perfect excuse to go there. I decided to spend 2 nights at the lake to give us enough time to enjoy the lakes and relax. We stayed at Guesthouse Sven - it is about 5 min walk from the Entrance 1, great location and nice house. We had a room which balcony from where we could see part of a waterfall. It was a nice stay.

We reached there around 5:15pm. After settling in we decided to take a stroll to the park and enquire about what to do. The park was quite close at this time, and no information. Next day morning we started early at 7:00am to enjoy the park before all the crowds. This was a very good decision. It is highly recommended to stay there overnight and start early at the park. In the morning the light was perfect for photos, and the park was relatively empty. The lower lakes were "flooded" so we had to skip that and start from the top. We followed the route C which is very scenic. The place is absolutely gorgeous, so much water and such clear green lakes. The park is very well maintained with boardwalks everywhere to walk around. It is quite short though. With very slow 3hrs of walking we were already at the north end. From here we took the bus back to first entrance. We had seen quite a few people walking down to the lower lakes, so we decided to do that too. It was afternoon, and since our apartment was so close we went back for a nice sit down lunch at the apartment.

On returning, the scene at national park was very different. It was full of tourists coming in bus loads. We walked down where they had just repaired some board walks and bridges. The lowers lakes are really pretty, and half of them were open now. Then we decided to do one of the loops again, the one right after P2 boat stop. This one was full of waterfalls. At this time though the board walks were crowded with people, and I was worried one of them (or me) is going to fall off into the lake. We managed the whole thing without such incident, took some pictures and then back to bus, totally exhausted.

In the evening we cooked some dinner and sat in our balcony looking at the waterfall. The park is small, even if you walk the whole thing. So staying 2 nights was a bit overkill. We could have easily come back to Zagreb in the evening. Though staying there one night to get to entrance early is highly recommended.
