Traditional Japanese streets
Last week we ventured all the way to the other side of Tokyo (about an hour by train) to visit the Fukagawa Edo Museum.

Both of us are not that keen on museums but we read about this one in of our Tokyo Guide books and it gave the following description....

" This is the Tokyo of your dreams, the way it appears in the samurai movies on Japanese TV : a reproduction of the 19th century neighbourhood of Fukagawa during the Edo period....."

The museum contained 11 full-scale replicas of traditional houses, vegetable and rice shops, fish store, two inns, a fire watchtower and homes, all arranged to resemble an actual neighbourhood.

It was amazing! They even had a cat on a roof, which "meeow-ed" every 5 minutes! Every 45 minutes or so the museum undergoes a day's cycle from morning, with the rooster crowing to night, with the sunset and night animal noises. We were even there to experience a "rain" shower. It was so awesome.

If you really want to go back in time and see traditional 19th century Japan, then this is the place to go. We had a fantastic time!!
