Moroccan Wanderings

Seems I'm been publishing here on TravelBlog less regularly - and doing my albums on Facebook instead. Well, I know I've got a few friends how aren't the Facebook type, so i"m going to do my best to get back to the TravelBlog postings as well . . . .

For all the traveling I've done and all the off the beaten places I've had the pleasure of exploring, I'd never been to one of the more accessible and exciting of destinations to so many - Morocco! Well, this past October I finally remedied that situation!

The trip started with a day in Casablanca, visiting the Hassan II Mosque and rambling around in the the Old Medina. From there we continued to Meknes and the Roman ruins at Volubilis before heading on to Fes. Then we crossed the Middle Atlas range of mountains, enjoying some time up close and personal with some macaque, lounging in the trees.

We continued southward to Merzouga, the edge of the great Sahara, enjoying a glorious sunset on a camel trek. Then we headed westward through Tinerhir, the Todra Gorge and on to Quarzazate and the nearby village of Ait Benhaddou - which grew up around a glorious old Kasbah.

Then to north, across the High Atlas range and into the mystery and energy that is Marrakech!

The highlight for me - the Sahara. There's just something about a good desert!
