Sept. 19

So I am really sorry guys I cannot get my pictures downloaded anywhere and when I do get them working it is very time-consuming so I prob. won't have a lot of pictures on here. Dustin I can't get the one's you sent downloaded.

Anyhow, this is a very beautiful city. We met two girls from Belgium today, yes Dustin real Belgium people. They had been in Athens for awhile sot they showed us some of the sights. We first saw the Acropolis. It means something about the top of the city. You can see it from all over the city. I wish I could show the pictures. The Parthenon Temple is on the Acropolis Hill built for the Greek goddess Athena between 447 and 432 BC. Athena was the protector of the city. We also saw the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and the Propyloea. We also saw two ancient theatres, Dionysos and Odeon of Herod Atticus right below the Acropolis. We saw the Ancient Agora which is at the foot of Acropolis. This was known as the commercial and public centre of ancient Athens. During the classical age Aristotle taught here. We seen the parliament buildings and happend to go at the right time to see the "changing of the guards." which was a cute display After that we went to the Monostiraki Market. A really interesting market, I found a lot of cool stuff there and again whish I had more money and more room in my bag because I would have bought so much. It was a long street with tons of shops. Later in the evening we went up to the roof top bar of our hostel which had a great view of the Acropolis and the whole city. It was a great party hostel. A lot of really interesting people. Although the sun had gotten to me and I had to go to bed early. David stayed out with the Belgium girls ( :

It was kinda rainy today so we didn't do a lot. We went to the Olympic Stadium with two girls from BC. They were acrobats in the circus. Interesting !!!! We went to the temple of Zeus. It wasn't overly interesting it had a huge ancient gate to get in and then a lot of rock bases where statues used to be. We later went to the hostel bar had a couple beer and went strolling through a couple of markets and through the streets with an Australian, a German, and an American.

Sept. 21st.

We again walked around Athens today. This time in a different area. We went down some of the streets where the locals had their shops. (The non-tourist areas.) These shops were very specific stores. They had chair stores, and fire place stores and mannequin stores. There were a lot of Greek people driving around this area with serious road rage. They were all yelling at each other and shaking there fists at each other. We walk through a huge meat market. It had about 8 - 10 rows. It smelt really bad and there were animals skinned with there eyes and head still attached hanging from metal rods. It was disgusting. We walked through a park that went up the side of a small mountain. It had a prison that was built into the side of the mountain which was supposedly where Socrates was held. We seen the Pnyx and the Hill of Nymph, it was cool looking building which was once the sanctuary of Zeus. We also seen the church of St. Marina, named as the protectoress of sick children. It was built on a rocky hill where women used to slide down to ensure fertility. We walked over to the Kerameikos museum, which was located close to the ancient Athenian Sacred Way, where thousands of monuments had stood (many for memorial purposes. The monuments were destroyed by the Spartans. Later the Athenians placed a wall around there village and used the broken monuments in the wall. The monuments added extra stability to the wall. They were protecting themselves from the Romans. Archeologists are now putting these monuments back together. We walked down the actual road that the athenians rode into the sacred way and walked through the ancient village. That night we took a ferry to Santorini, which is part of the Cyclade Islands on the east coast of Greece. We met another girl there who was like us not sure what ferry to get on. She was also going to Santorini She was from New Zealand but had grown up in New Zealand. She ended up finding the ferry with us. We met 2 Australians on the ferry. We played card games and memory games for most of the night. Got very little sleep. I went to take a picture of Dave and the dude sleeping beside him, we accidendly woke him up. He didn't look to happy but ended up joining us in the card games. He was from Portugal. We were quite tired the next day when we landed in Santorini

Hey Jamie! Sounds like your trip has been full on new experiences! Not sure if your still planning on going to Africa, but Lynds and I just got back. It was great our tours were awesome. Some advice if you can take extra pens for the kids and have candies. If you have anything with a Canada flag on it safe it to trade for stuff. We had no problems but I won't recommend going anywhere by yourself unless you know the area. And be ready for the pressure and pushing to buy stuff, especially if your going to Kenya, Tanzania wasn't as bad. Anyways hope the rest of your trip goes well! ttyl

Africa
Thanks Kendra, I am glad you had fun in Africa. I don't know if I will be going there. I might be back in a month or so from Europe. David is having some major problems with his accounts and stuff like that. He lost his debit card over here. So he will probably go back soon. I don't want to stay here by myself for a long time.
