After spending the night in Rostock we headed for Berlin.
Very surprised at Berlin City a vast orderly city with elegant buildings and parks which are scattered throughout the city. Cafes and restaurants offering local and traditional foods as well as a offering European foods. A specialty of Berlin was however the famous curry wurst, a traditional German sausage with a combination of tomato and curry sauce and fries, nice on the lips but adds inches to you hips.Joining a walking tour of the city conducted by a British young man, a Music and History Student we enjoyed the most informative history lesson and humorous information. We were walked into past and present in social, historic and political information. We walked through beautiful parks and visited monuments.Berlin Fashion week had started so got a glimpse of the beautiful people arriving in their Chauffeur driven Mercedes Benz. We had seen the Berlin wall on our tour but knew their was a more interesting part that was graffitied so we had a great few hours just walking aside it looking at the art and people watching.Lots beautiful architecture along with fabulous new buildings, their was a modern shopping centre which was like a
garden, and the outer roof top gardens lined with trees walked a little part of the Berlin Zoo great for the children who get bored with shopping at the expensive shops. From Berlin we drove to the Czech Republic and to Prague, we had rented a small apartment in the centre which gave us chance to cook and have a little space. The owner of the apartment was just lovely. He gave us so much local info and shared some insight to his Prague. He recommended a fabulous local restaurant to us, which served traditional gastro modern menu which was fabulous. We ate rabbit and duck old traditional but with a modern twist. We loved the cuisine so much we ate there every night. Quirky modern buildings around Prague. One in particular is the dancing buildings loving known as Fred and Ginger namesake of Ginger Rodgers and Fred Astire the famous American dancers of the 1940s. Modern buildings which stand along side traditional Bohemia, and Art Deco. The Czech people enjoy good food wine and lots beer and enjoy them selfs very much they seems to me that they love life and are quite wild, loud and fun loving. The city

of Prague offers everything for the history buff Castles,Churches and Monastery's which also offer the monks ales and wines that are brewed in the monastery's. Morning farmers markets also offering the best cheeses and breads vegetables and food products which are brought into the Capitol so nothing but the best produce is bought by the people of Prague. We ate breakfast at the famous Art Deco The Cafe Louvre reasonably priced and a glance into a beautiful tradition of the Prague people. Prague has to be one of our favourite city's we loved it. On to a small town in Czech Republic, Cesky Kromley a medieval town which is built on the river, this place was recommended by our son Adam who visited while in Europe he fell in love with the place and thought it was just the prettiest place he had visited. It was indeed very lovely and quaint we enjoyed a few days here visiting the castle and monastery. We also rented a canoe and was driven 25 klm up river to paddle back into town. With a few domestics along the way and some bludging from one of the crew members we managed to become a great
team but it was touch and go as we had a few moments heated discussions. I may I add we weren't the only novices on the water. We took 5 1/2 hours and 6 weirs navigated, we are now experts at paddling and steering, ready for some white water me thinks heheh. Onwards towards Austria and Vienna, Strauss and Mozart music. Waltzes and polkas and the Danube, we walked around 30 klm looking at the most beautiful palaces and buildings. And though we found the Viennese to be quite reserved, and not a all chatty. Venturing into a fantastic daily market where we met Singi a now Viennese resident and such a charming fellow who worked at a deli who managed to extrapolate €8 euros with great ease, from us. We bought the most fabulous array of olives. He was just great chatting about his birth home Delhi India. Asking us about Australia all the time tempting us with a array of samples and before we knew it the bill. But entertained and happy we were. We also ate the best kebab ever for the price of $2 just so yummy. In the evening found a fabulous restaurant that served Pork Hock
served with mustard and Horseradish, potato salads. This was a massive hock which was supposed to be shared between two people more like four we had a doggie bag for lunch and dinner the next day. We met a lovely young couple Mark and Yeree who were friends from university. Mark from Boston USA living in London and Yeree from Honolulu, Hawaii living in Sarajevo Bosnia. Who were holidaying, we spent the evening chatting and laughing a lovely evening, with two lovely young people. We would love to catch up with again on our travels.Driving though Slovakia through Bratislava and towards Poland and the main reason we traveled through was to visit was Auschwitz concentration camp. We stayed around thirty minutes away in a small Palace which was very elegant with pretty gardens surroundings, we do spoil ourself from time to time. Went to the the local cinema and watched the movie Terminator Genesis with Arny omg well at least it was in English. The next day to Auschwitz a place I have alway wanted to visit. I have written a separate blog for this day if you care to read. After a exhausting day spent here we were left
Prague
Fred and Ginger quite empty and emotional and retired quite early for the next days drive back into Slovakia, to Lavoca another medieval walled town and a early morning drive to Spiz castle the largest ruin castle in Europe. Destination Hungry Budapest. Glen and I love driving and we use the back roads through villages and country side,we constantly get lost but it's all part of seeing some of the most beautiful country side of Europe. Stopping in on bakeries for bread and cheese and cold meats for lunches or in some cases local markets meeting and asking questions of the locals. So arriving in Budapest, once again centre of the city and a great apartment in the Jewish quarter. What can I say about Budapest but wow!!!! Amazing from the bohemian buildings gilded gold paintings and with tile ceramic domes or roofs to the Quirkiness of buildings in the ghettos. With the travellers, backpackers and holiday makers it's such mecca of rich vibrant ethnic groups. Traditional and vibrant love love love Budapest just amazing cultural experiences. A very exciting city for young and old. We only spent three days here but could have spent three weeks but or 90 day European visa stay
is getting less and are now limited to time however we are going to spend some time in non Schengen country's so we can buy a little time their. We sailed the Danube by day and by night, and visited so many churches as in other country's Glen says not another church but when you walk though the doors something always amazes you just such beautiful interiors never be put off by a ordinary churches because such beauty awaits inside. We ate Kosher, Vegan and Hungarian foods, Sour cherrie soup to Goulash. And I do believe Erica our landlady took a bit of a shine to Glen she was like a discus thrower that's the best distribution I can give, she was quite scary at first but she was a pussycat really. Well we think. And today we leave Budapest and travel to Slovenia for the night before a three week stint in Italy. So it's arrividerchi for now, love and peace to everyone and everyone be safe. Love to all Suzanne and Glen.
