We arrived in Dawson Creek on Sunday afternoon ... one of the last to arrive, but we made it. Our travel caravan will consist of 22 Winnebago motorhomes (counting the 2 host units). We have a total of 42 people. Two days were spent in Dawson Creek as we started to get to know some of our group members, representing the United States and Canada. We have what they call travel meetings everyday, which will go over any instructions for the following day for our travels and suggested sites to see along the way. The Dawson Creek Visitor Center presented a very informative session on the start of the Alaskan Highway. It is hard to imagine the amount of work that was done in less than a 9 month span to get this highway completed during WWII. Of course many changes have been made over the years .... and yes, it is now all paved! Plenty of construction going on, but where can you travel today without that?

Jim got this first round of golf in Monday. We were able to fit 18 holes in between events. The weather has been beautiful, so it was a good time to get out and enjoy the area. Today was our first moving day as a group. Our departures are spaced out so as not to send 22 motorhomes out on the highway at one time. I've drawn the last group again for tomorrow. Not a problem, cause nothing truly slows Jim down once he gets behind the wheel! There will be more to see along the way tomorrow as we travel to Mucho Lake.

We passed our first official forest fires this afternoon. It is hard to explain the amount of damage done, with so many trees burned. The areas were still smoking, although they looked to be under control. Let's hope these are the last of the fires we encounter.

Hi, my first cousin's husband was one of engineers building that highway during the war. Have a good trip. Love, Mom and Dad.
