Flying into Milan and then driving down to Monaco Monte Carlo, Marseilles. Menton we spent a lovely few days seeing how the other half live so much money here especially on the yachts. it's one thing seeing the super cars driving the streets but once you have seen a luxury Yacht. You realise just how rich people are to have a crew of 12 just sitting waiting for them to sail anywhere in the world. They even charge you €10 euro just to get in the Casino that's before you lose all your money, we wandered around the streets lots of old wrinkly old people not not many young and beautiful.
Lots of old money in Monaco. It's the same story when you take a Australian to a beach first it has to have sand then a surf and if it's got neither, it not a beach. But we are very impressed just how clean and clear it is. And the show of sexy bottoms got another plus and none of them were mine. But as budget travellers we find it difficult as the prices are very expensive, I just don't know how anyone can justify paying $18 dollars for a salad. But
I suppose the rich can.The place is beautiful and we wandered through Princess Graces gardens and the pretty little streets that surround the Palace. Marseille were you just sit and people watch everybody's the same watching, eating and drinking. After we couldn't stand anymore we drove from the Riviera to Bardonecchia in the Italian Alps. Bardonecchia was part of the Winter Olympics 2006 which hosted some ski events, theirs one thing to be said about a ski village in the summer they are cheap and quiet apart from the cyclists and the walkers. We had the most fabulous apartment kitchen lounge and huge king size bed. And a view to kill for, we love being able to cook for ourselves, it's so hard to eat healthy when your traveling and so hard not to put on weight because your eating out, so we buy fresh bread and make salad sandwiches and eat salad and steak and veggies too when we have a kitchen, very simple but healthy.Mornings we spent on our balcony eating breakfast. Then the afternoon exploring the country side and the evenings in our own company, watching TV sounds boring but solitude is lovely when you don't get to experience
it often.Heading off again and heading to Davos, Switzerland our longest car journey, a day of traveling and the weather had broken heavy rain had been predicted. Heading up a group of mountains winding roads and so steep wondering what above us and the view down was blocked by thick fog and rain maybe this was a good thing as the steepness of the road. Finally at the top a blue dam and clear weather blue sky's and as we passed over the boarder into Switzerland, the country side an emerald shade of green and swiz cottages and winding roads down into a valleys. Mountains surrounding..... capped with last winters snow. The perfect roads and pristine country side and beautiful homes and farms didn't disappoint. We arrived in Davos and set about exploring the town, once again such a expensive place even the basic food hamburger $25. We had known that it would be expensive so we had chosen a self contained apartment which was great as we just cooked our own food. We enjoyed our stay and the Swiz people were nice and friendly. Liechtenstein a small country on the border of Switzerland and Germany blink and you will
miss they live in their own world, called in for a McDonald's coffee at $12. Guess we won't be staying here too long, life styles in Switzerland and Liechtenstein are very high and tourist that visit don't have budgets like us.Stopping in Colmer eastern France for the evening, which was made famous as the gentleman who designed the Statue of Liberty came from this town. The next day spent the day in Strasburg and visited the amazing Cathedral and petit Paris which is an area of pretty winding streets like the streets of Paris. We were heading towards Germany Saarbruken, we had met a lovely couple back in Manilla and had kept in touch via face book, I had mentioned to Susanne that we would defiantly call in and have a beer with them. I contacted her to tell her the date we would be passing through and she was so excited as the day we had chosen would be her 50th birthday. How was that for timing. We had the best time and their friends were friendly and we were made very welcome. We drank and laughed and ate the biggest snitzels ever and we had very sore heads in the
morning lots of wonderful photos and a video which ended up on FB classic. Thank you to Susanne and Lutz we had the best eveningThe next afternoon we drove into Luxembourg we change country's like that, Glen says which country are we in. It's so odd I suppose for Australians as they just have States, and driving such long distances to places is never a problem. So when your driving in Europe it's not so odd that you pass in and out of country's. So we arrive in Luxembourg pristine city and so lovely, we both were very impressed and had a good look around we stayed in Fischbach a small village in the north and we visited lots of historic towns and loved the lifestyle of Luxembourg, the country side and small towns and villages were just beautiful. I could easily live here very lovely. On to Belgium and yet again so lovely, Brussels and Antwerp were fantastic we stayed in Brussels and explored the country not far to anywhere really even went as far as Dunkirk in France one day. Visited Ghent and Bruges the Venice of Belgium and Flanders Fields which was a world 1 American cemetery this
place was just amazing the grounds were beautiful and maintained the people who look after this place do a amazing job it was a beautiful garden very quite and peaceful beautiful trees and flowers just gorgeous. The historic buildings here in Belgium are great but they also modern architecture, modern combined with the old is quiet cleverly done. There is a quirkiness about the Flemish in the designs of interiors and everyday house hold items. We enjoyed our stay here very much. The cobbled streets and the building as well as the chocolate shops and the lace makers the hundreds of restaurants that dish up some grastro dishes such as Mussels with wine and cream a Belgium favourite served with frites (chips) and bread. We also saw dining in the sky cost a motza gastro dining were your hoisted into the sky next to a famous landmark and treated to a Michelin star menu. Your anchored into seats and hoisted into the sky with 12 others at a table and then you dine. I hope that the route we are traveling is not baffling people but we are trying to see a much as possible of each country and region
and as I am traveling with Glen we sure are seeing lots. Now that we have settled down driving on the wrong side of the road and we are very confidant in muscling in to bustling traffic and the European way of driving it comes down to who's got the bigger set, hahaha. Plus everyone thinks we're Italian as we rented the car in Italy. Well today is Monday its raining again!! and we are changing country's off to the Netherlands Amsterdam what trouble can we get into to here. Be safe everyone until our next blog ????
