Tuesday 12th.

Am starting to love Athens, or perhaps not so much Athens but the wonderful people I am starting to see. This morning I had breakfast at a wonderful little cafe called PLAKA, not far from where I am staying. I liked the look of this place because there were no aggressive touts trying to drag you inside when you stopped to look at the menu, just a sweet old man.

I had a large, filled omlette that cost 2.50 euro, a coffee, the cheapest I have seen anywhere so far for 1.50 and Demetris (the sweet old man) gave me free toast, butter and jam. I think he did this because I talked to him...or perhaps he does it for all new customers. Anyway he is totally delightful and the food was great. I promised him I will be back there tomorrow for breakfast again.

Pavlos came and picked me up last night and we walked around a different part of the town and stopped to enquire about tickets to Santorini. Then we sat and had a drink then wandered a bit more. He is a fantastic host, and what an old fashioned gentleman. He is constantly looking out for me with road crossings and bits of the pavement that might be too slippery, dog shit on the pavement etc. And of course waiting for me to go through doors first etc. I always was a total sucker for the old school gentleman type.

Considering we had only ever corresponded by msn and email we get on incredibly well and have a ton in common. So far there have been no uncomfortable moments or embarrassing silences etc. It has been like we have known each other for ever. (for those that don't know, we have been in contact for about 3 years).

I have now brought a ticket on the ferry for Santorini. I go this Thursday. I am hoping to get the metro line to the port, and will have a practice run first as I have to change stations a couple of times. It will be another silly early start as the boat leaves at 7.20 am.

Pavlos hopes he will know by next Monday if he can come out to join me for a bit. I am not holding my breath on that one though.

I think I will leave seeing "the rock" until I come back. Pavlos has spoken about us doing a day trip in the car to Delphi (I think that is where he said) and also to the big hill where you get great views of the city. He also mentioned taking in Athens at night, that would be fun I think. I'm not sure if I can get him to go dancing though.......ha ha ha.

I am having trouble with the pronounciation of their word for thanks or thank you. The sound in the middle you have to say is really hard to get your tongue round. The people seem to love it though that I am bothering to try.

It is quite cooler today, maybe only 26-28 degrees. I am now sleeping at night without the aircon on.

Right, might go and do some more exploring..........
