O M G yes I am finally here in Greece.

Don't have much time, it has taken me two days of wandering and only running into a couple of fellow kiwis who are staying at a very swanky hotel that has internet, for me to be writing this at all.

Got here safely......obviously. It isn't too hot.......THANK GOD Pavlos is fantastic............THANK GOD. Am staying in a hotel right under the acropolis. Couldn't stay with Pavlos as he is living with his Mum temporarily until he is able to move to Olympia with his new job. He still doesn't know if he can come to Santorini with me. Being self employed here in Greece has distinct disadvantages. He told all his customers he would be off work for a week (so he could come away with me) but some have had disasters happen and he has had to work.

Athens is a massive concrete jungle like all the books say. But you only realise that when you are standing on a hill. I am in the area called Plaka which is the old cute part of the city, very very touristy though. But hell, who cares.

Had a big drama trying to find somewhere to stay. Lots of places didn't seem to want to take a single woman on her own on a Saturday night. I found Hotel Bryon by accident and managed to get them down from 90 euro a night to 60 euro a night......a bit more than 120 NZD. Shit! Oh well, thems the breaks. I don't mind paying more to have my own room with air con and bathroom, just means I am literally living on bread, cheese, grapes and water. LOL And I am being serious. Although today I discovered Gyro's, which are like filled pita bread for 1.60 euro, so imagine I will be living on them now, along with the grapes.

Few quick comments: Greek driving is even more insane and fast than Croatian driving! If that is possible........which it is.

Things here are more expensive than I thought they would be, especially compared to Croatia. But the kiwis who told me about this hotel said Greece is positively cheap compared to France, which is where they have just come from.

The "rock" as Pavlos calls it is amazing. I haven't done the tour yet but the vibe from the area is great.

Hopefully will write more soon.

Grapes diet !^$!*)#!!
skip the grapes and go straight to the cheap greek wine and drink buckets :) .. actually I think the Ouzo is way cheaper. You must to the compolsory breaking of a plate over your head > followed by an Ouzo chaser ! Enjoy
