Hi everyone, NO wi-fi where we have been, but before that we did our ghost tour around the historic site that night, it wasn't scarey at all, really hoping it was. I was one of the lantern bearers, there were 4 of us, so we were given strict instructions by our guide to stand in positions for people to enter dark buildings, spooky, NOT !! Yes they were dark, but didn't feel like there were ghosts there or anything, but guide man told us some spooky stories to do with people who lived on the site back in the 1800's. Anyhow it was all good fun and we laughed and then we went ooooooohhhh, then we shivered, you know all the usual things you do when you are supposed to be scared !!

So the next morning we set off to the mountains, except Sue had forgotten her camera in the sandwich shop. Now out here were not talking about the sandwich shop down the end of the road, were talking a 3 hour round trip, oh yes, so Brian dropped me and Stu off in Hobart which is the capital of Tasmania so we could go to the Salamanca market which has become a local institution since 1973, and John Torode went there on telly, plus we had to do 2 days of food shopping for where we were going. Loved the market, arty and crafty and market people were friendly. Stu and I brought a scallop and curry pie which apparently is Tasmanian and it was delicious. So we met up with Sue and Brian and headed off to the mountains but stopped on the way in a place called Ross, a very quaint Georgian village. It was founded as a garrison in 1812, and had lots of military history. They went off and had a cuppa and I went off exploring. It was like going back in time, had some antique shops and little bakery and a little warehouse with what looked like a load of junk inside but in actual fact I could have spent a good 2 hours in there routing through old tin baths and wooden boxes and steak irons (don't know what I would do with those, but I liked them !!) So from there we travelled to the mountains, it was about a 5 hour drive from where we left the earlier house in Whitebeach, not forgetting their detour for the camera.

Rick stein
Coincidentally watched a programme last night, Cook abroad and Rick stein was in Sydney and Tasmainia, looked beautiful, he said Hobart was what Sydney was like when he first went out to Aus when he was 19. Can't believe you never saw a devil, being the main attraction, well good reason to go back.

Howdy
Gutted not seeing a devil in the wild, but did see them at Healesville Santuary, funny little things. Yes Tasmania is stunning, until - spoilt, no litter anywhere, just breathtaking. Must watch that programme when I come back.
