We arrived at Santorini just before 6am & were lucky to make it. We just woke up in time to do a frantic pack & exit the boat before it departed again. We didn't even have time to deflate our $2 air beds (yes we did purchase air beds after being taught a lesson in simple comforts on our first ferry experience). It was early & we had to make our way from the dock to Perissa, where the hostel was. The local bus network didn't start until 8am & even then there was confusion over whether it would go all the way to Perissa. The hostel did provide transfers but not at that hour. Our options were to get a cab or hang about for a bus they may not even be able to help. We went with cab & shared it with two randoms heading in the same direction.

The hostel didn't open until 9am, so we hung around out front for a few hours. We met an Aussie during our wait who had some wild travel stories. Getting locked up in Romania for 44hrs & enduring a bout of food poisoning whilst on a crazy bus ride through Morocco, so that kept us entertained. We eventually checked-in but couldn't access the room until midday. We grabbed some brekky & checked out the beach where we found the sand to actually be black. We hired a scooter & sussed out our departure for Mykonos. We find out that the ferries depart every day apart from Wednesday, the day we planned to depart. Two nights in Santorini quickly changed to three.

The hostel was great for the price. We found ourselves in a 12 bed dorm with mostly aussies. The area in front of the hostel is good for socialising & a few drinks. the drinks we cheap courtesy of the nearby grocery store. One of our room mates (english lad) happened to be a flyer dropper for one of the clubs, so we ended up there for free tequila shots. Di worked out that a shot of vodka was $2 whereas a vodka & mixer was $6...figure that out. She decided to drink shots.

Late nights always result in late rises, so you find yourself playing catch up footy in the sightseeing stakes. We used the bike to get around as much of the island as

possible. Thira was big & messy with plenty of traffic. We escaped it for a very nice beach close by.

A lot of people tend to stay in Thira but more budget accomodation is in Perissa. We preferred Perissa, it was much more relaxed. The bigger night clubs are in Thira, but it easy to get a bus there. There a plenty of clubs on the beach in Perissa though, so we didn't bother.
