G'day everyone, well had a lovely day on a boat, (we're looking very pink !), we decided to take the ecohopper from Circular Quay and go over to Fort Denison. It is right by the Opera House in the Ocean, so hopped off there and felt we were marooned on an island, the city seemed so close, like Alcatraz, for anyone that has been there. Decided to book onto the tower tour, as we could walk round the Fort in 5 minutes and our ferry wasn't coming back for one hour 15 minutes. There was only about 6 of us, so up the tower we went, we had a guide who was very strict, gave us a set of rules at the start and you really didn't want to disobey as she was scarey!!! The Fort was interesting, it was built incase Aussie was invaded by the Russians and to protect Aussie when the gold rush started, infact anyone who was going to attack them !! After that we went to wait for our ferry, we had to wave to get it to stop, it nearly went past us as Captain didn't see us. Ehhh !! Wasn't really that hard, we
were at the front of the little island waiting to get off !! So hopped on and went off to Watsons Bay, now if I had tons of money and didn't want to live in the city, this would be the place for me. Beautiful, quite quiet, nice houses, so we had lunch there as we were to, they do the best fish, so we also got king prawns and fish and it was true, absolutely fantastic, eating down by the beach, very hot. Back on the ferry, sped off to Manly, surfers paradise. Beach was great, infact for a surfers place, not posey, just very laid back. We watched the surfers doing their thing. They have lifeguards everywhere and if they don't like something, they tell you over large speaker phones. The currents are pretty strong so you are restricted to certain places, of course you always get the usual idiot who likes to do it their way. Didn't see any sharks, wish I did, but obviously not to attack anyone. This took up most of our day, hopped back on ferry, back to the city, passed Taronga Zoo, Darling Harbour which we have already visited and Quarantine Station,
really would have liked to gone there, as everyone that came to Aussie had to come into that point. However time was not on our side. I tell you, I have no idea where the time goes, we both said we need longer days and more time out here. So off the boat we got and decided to have a wine beverage. Read in the guide book, go to the roof garden at The Glenmore at the Rocks, however decided before that, we would walk the Sydney bridge to the other end. Up and up some steps we went and walked and walked over The bridge. They have cycles on the other side, trains on one level and obviously the cars travelling in both directions, pedestrians are kept to one side, also they have a lot of security guys on the bridge walking up and down, so no funny antics on there. I suppose it took us about half an hour one way and then the same back again, we weren't rushing as we were nosing in people's gardens on the Northern side of Sydney, wouldn't mind living there either !! Nice views of the opera house. So legs now
dropping off, taking in the guys who were up the top on the arch and below, heck it is high Stu and I felt sick looking down so how that lot felt up there heavens knows, it was making us dizzy and the wind was blowing. We kept saying, no way could we do that, it was bad enough what we were doing, but we are Wossey!! So after that shakey moment, it was wine beverage time, so climbed up to the Roof bar at The Glenmore and what spectacular views we had of the city, it was a very trendy and busy place, lots of people there unwinding after work. Had such a lovely day in Sydney, now we must go back to the up and coming area of Sydney !!! Backpackers hostel is awaiting us, lovely place. We have very strict rules, certainly no smoking, if we cause the fire brigade to come out, there is over a thousand dollar fine. So what happened this morning, our next door neighbours were smoking away and it was coming through to our room, through the sophisticated air conditioning (it sounds like a rocket, next to Stu's ears as it is
behind the curtains, that I won't touch), well we looked at each other, both decided we didn't want the management thinking it was us, so down I went, checked out the kitchen to make sure no one was around and reported it. Yes call me a SNITCH, we were not getting kicked out of our lovely place. So funny, cos when we came in late last night, (we tend to stay out as long as we can!!) I said to Stu 'they haven't made our bed', he just looked at me. He said 'were in a hostel, not a hotel. What is wrong with me, I was a young backpacker in my day !!, this morning he said 'shall I ring down for room service', I looked at him and had to think for a moment, then it all came flooding back, Red Light area, Kings Cross, hostel with the manky curtains and the roaring air condition unit !!!
