Casa Rosada
Me infront of the famous pink Casa Rosado where Evita made her famous speeches. I guess I’ll start from the beginning. We landed in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Sunday afternoon after a 12 hour flight. The flight was pretty uneventful with me trying to grab as much sleep as possible (a whole 3hrs I believe), and Andrew struggling with an IQ puzzle, convinced some of the puzzles were impossible and it was the puzzle that was at fault and not himself. Upon landing we were a little lost, not really knowing what to do. Andrew eventually managed to order us a taxi and we were on our way. On our way through the outskirts of the city we passed some slums which was a bit of a wake-up call. When we got into the city centre we noticed the city seemed a bit dead but this was apparently due to the fact that it was Sunday. The Spanish speaking taxi driver managed to get us to our hostel without any incidents and we headed on in to the hostel. When we arrived we were told our room was still occupied so we would have to wait ten minutes. Forty-five minutes later we were shown into our room. At first we were a bit disheartened as
Impressive Uni building
This is the faculty of engineering in BA. Impressive buildings abound. the bed was small and the room pretty shabby, but we’ve now grown to find the room quite comfy. Once we arrived we hit the sack and didn’t get up again until breakfast the next morning.
Buenos Aires is a massive city that will take us weeks to explore. So far we have only seen a tiny portion of what it has to offer and I’m beginning to like it. The buildings and side walks are a bit decrepit but this only adds to the city´s charm. The food here is unbelievably cheap so we have been enjoying eating out for lunch and dinner and have so many places to try. Last night we had an all you can eat and drink asado (Argentinean barbeque) at the hostel. The beef was pretty good and the sausages were unbelievably tasty (and I usually hate sausages), but the best thing about the asado was hanging out and chatting with the other travelers. We meet an English couple, three Irish lads, three Chileans and an Ecuadorian. All up the night was pretty good, except for an annoying English girl that was trying to set up a "club" in the TV room.
Lunch in San Telmo
Enjoying a glass of vino tinto in one of the many plazas (this glass wasn´t that nice). Today we plan to check out more of what the city has to offer and play a 5-on-5 soccer match against the hostel staff. Should be fun.
Hope all is well back in NZ. Ciao for now.
