Built on a steep hill, this is what the houses look like.
Can't believe it, found wireless internet at a campground. We are now in New Brunswick at the Hopewell Cape to see the largest tides in the world, but this episode of the blog will take you back to where we left you as you are running a few days behind us......

August 28/29/30 - Quebec City

Parked in Old Quebec Lower Town near the port. Quebec City is built on a very steep hill. We walked uphill to the information centre in Old Upper Town which was near the beautiful hotel Chateau Frontenac. It is as June said “like walking into another world.” The architecture of the century old buildings is really beautiful. Old Upper Town is surrounded by the “old wall” - 4km around and you can walk on top of it.

We opted for a two part tour which took us around Old Town for 2 hours one day and out of Quebec City the next day to Ile d’Orleans, Montmorency Falls and Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre for a 5 hour tour.

Note to Mom: Kelsey is doing fine. She gets a walk morning and night and we park close enough to the camper to go back and take her out mid-day for a break. She is not minding the driving and is getting lots of extra treats.

Our tour of Old Quebec City was ok, but it was hard to see out of the bus as well as decipher the French accent of the guide. We wished we had taken the horse and buggy tour (calesh) instead. We found the Citadel and Plains of Abraham most interesting where Wolfe defeated Montcalm resulting in the British taking over the colony of New France.

Ile d’Orleans is an island in the Saint Lawrence where the tiny farms and houses have been kept in the family for generations. They were growing fruits (strawberries, apples) and vegetables and some have a few cattle. Many people just keep summer homes there now. The island is a heritage site and the houses have brightly painted trim with many window boxes overflowing with flowers. New construction must meet certain standards to conform to the original architecture. From the island there is a grand view of Quebec City. A highlight was a stop at a Chocolaerie (up my alley for sure hey Barb!).

We then stopped at Montmorency Falls which are one and a half times higher than Niagria (not nearly as wide of course) and walked on the suspension bridge over top of them. A splashing experience!

Last stop was at the shrine of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre which is dedicated to Anne, the mother of Mary. Another spectacular Basilica. However, Larry says enough with the Churches already. I must admit, they are starting to meld into one another by now.

We then had an excruciating experience trying to find the campground which I booked on the cell phone. If we had believed Ms. Nuvi (should know by now) we would not have gotten lost, but it seemed like we had driven too far so veered of the path. With no map and highways looping up and under and all around us, it got interesting. According to the advertisement the campground we booked was supposed to be the closest campground to Old Quebec City however we passed two before we got to it and were so peeved by then we took one of them instead.
