This beach was beautiful! just the photo is crap :(
Koh Pha-Ngan, home to the infamous Full Moon Party, an event of pestilence and pollution I plan to never ever attend, has turned out to be the most pleasant surprise of my travels in Thailand. Pha-Ngan is beautiful. My photos are crap - the colours are so pathetic - but it really is beautiful. I had assumed that it was just a party island, but I was happily mistaken. Pha-Ngan was a very welcome change from Samui - much smaller and quieter than Samui, and the beaches are actually gorgeous, while the main beach is craaaaap at Samui. Pha-Ngan has all these gorgeous big grey boulders and rocky areas, interspersed with and covered by trees, plus all the beaches have the obligatory palm trees. Ahhh... it was wonderful. I stayed the first night at the main beach, Had Rin, with my Thai friends, who left the next day. Then I was finally able to head away from the absolutely commercialised areas and up to a really quiet, lovely, relaxing beach called Hat Tong Nai Pan. This beach (in the photos) was not as lovely as I expected from the guidebooks, but I hung out with this delightful young British backpacker, Tilda, and made friends with a dog. I read lots and lots and generally felt just blissed out and content. Unfortunately I only had two nights there but I am certain to return!
