I wont write too much about today bar to say after a lovely breakfast it was almost sad to leave ''The Crask Inn'' - and after chatting over breakfast we didn't get away again until about 11am - the first few miles along the rest of the A836 were again superb - hugging a river and a loch again - all too good. The weather was A1 again as well. So all good and relaxed as we ambled along.
In short good riding again and we got to the North Coast of Britain - lovely beaches and viewsbut no people to speak off and pretty hilly plus the wind was right at us so progress was slow. We went past the nuclear power plant Doonrae and arrived in Thurso about 7.30pm. It was getting cold and cloudy so a cup of hot chocolate then the last 20 miles to John o Groats. These were amongst the worst of the whole ride as mist descended, it got dark and started raining and the back road we were on seemed to go forever, and forever. We were doing some pace but seemed to get nowhere. Eventually at 10.30pm we arrived in John O Groats - THATS IT ALL DONE.
Our B&b people picked us up and took us to their place about 1 mile out of town - another great welcome but I couldn't concentrate since I was just thinking how glad I was to be there and how pleased that it was all done. Amazing, well done me and thanks very much Neil for leading us through the last few days - a great route you took us on and good cycling with you.
From Lands End
I smiled around nearly every bend
Pulled in at some good looking ports
Thought some thoughts
Laughed out loud
Avoided the crowd
Shed a solitary tear
Drank some delicious beer
Visited this and that town
Sometimes felt a little down
Cheered myself up
Especially when Noremarsh won the cup
Took a trip down memory lane
And then came back again
Looked up at a steeple
Missed some extra special people
Lost a wallet, soaked a phone.
And now its nearly time to go home.
But before I do I'd best finish these hap hazard notes
To John O Groats
Pulled in at some ports
Thought some thoughts
laughed out loud
