ok, so i'm finally back home again after the FASTEST summer of my life... i know to those of you that love me it didn't feel that way to you since we had such a huge gap in/lack of communication, but i assure you that i'm fine and had a wonderful time there for the vast majority of it. my last few days in corfu were key, as in i only worked half days and was able to do some of the more fun things on the island. first off i was able to go on the booze cruise. first stop of the cruise is a four story cliff jump. i was the first to go- can i just say ouch... wait, let me try that one again OOOOUUUUCCCHH. prior to jumping: me: hey frenchie (fellow staff member in charge), do i hafta jump or just step off?
frenchie (in his french accent mind you): you're short, jump hard! me: ok...
needless to say i should have just stepped off, a hard jump off of those cliffs sends you OUT of control, i had INSTANT black all over my legs from the backs of my knees up to my bum, talk about a wicked booboo- i couldn't feel my legs... i'm just glad i wasn't the girl that hit completely sideways- now THAT looked like a wicked owie (i heard she broke a rib or two as well)... upon jimmy getting me into the boat the deckhands had a bag of ice waiting for me with the captain standing there saying "lie down on ur stomach with the ice on and don't move for thirty minutes"- yeah, that was fun... so in those thirty minutes post cliff catastrophie (the fall was really fun though, btw) we made our way to a secluded beach where everyone gets off and 'frolicks' in the sand/water/jagged rocks... don't worry no more injuries here. jimmy and i just played in the water in hopes of my bruises going down a bit in the cold water. so after the beach u get BACK onto the boat and it pulls around to some AWESOME bat caves. since jimmy and i were both staff the other staff members let us go in and stay on our own n look around while they took the guests in and out in 5 minute or so increments. not gonna lie- kinda creepy when they left with the flash light, really REALLY dark- i kicked the cave wall while swimming and thought i broke the top of my foot, but no worries it was only cut n bruised! but it was worth it, very VERY cool, TONS of bats up top, thank God they stayed up there!!! so then we climbed back on board and made our way back to the palace. the next day was my last day of work- i was given another half day, bartending only three hrs and STILL made a killing in tips (well, as good of a killing as u can do being a day barwench in europe where they DON'T tip), and got to play in the ocean with jimmy and jed- fun day all in all... the NEXT day was prime though, i had the whole day off, got to sleep in- kind of, i got one extra hour of sleep before jimmy woke me up with "hey- u have stuff to do today, get up!" ugggghhhh... i packed all my stuff up (seeing as how i left a bunch of my clothes behind because they were ruined i was surprised how packed my bag was until i realized how much crap i'd acquired from other ppl and from work t shirts), wrote my goodbye letters to ppl, picked up some presents and headed down to the beach to play in the water again with jimmy and jed, that night post the normal palladium party the two boys set up their room like a bar and had a lil private going away party for me. the next day was pretty much the same except it was my last day on the island so i was busy saying goodbyes to ppl and attempting to confirm my flight. the water that day was AWESOME, some crazy waves that almost killed me a couple of times SOOOO much fun!!! but it was really that night that made my summer. the palladium is the night club that runs nightly- it's part of the pink palace and it's where all the craziness happens. the night of my departure the DJ first of all put out about 10 shout outs to me the whole night, dedicating songs to me, telling ppl over the mike how "this chick rocks hard!!" (he's english i'm just going to take it as a compliment), and having them jump and put their hands up for me etc etc etc, it was really very sweet of him- but the best part was he closed it down early (something i RARELY ever saw) so that we could have a staff party before heading up to the reception for sendoff. so he played all classic rock for me and we hung out n danced and sang and had a freakin blast. then jimmy n i headed up to my room n grabbed my bags n brought them up to reception where everyone was waiting. i picked up my passport and the rest of money (i was only owed 450 but was given 700, not a bad bonus! the owner told me i was a "good girl, a very hard worker, smart girl, and a very good influence on these busboys- kept them in line" seeing as how the beginning of our summer started i was floored)... i gave my hugs and said my goodbyes and the bus came... n everyone followed me out n i had to do it all over again (shenanigans i tell you, there was WAY too many tears involved). jimmy was coming to the airport w/ me so he ushered me onto the bus basically pulling me away from everyone and then as i was boarding i turn around and NO one was there... wierd... so we're on the bus (standing because there was no more space to sit) and we're pulling up the crazy hill that the palace is on and all of a sudden there's not just one full moon, but about 25 lined up across the street not letting any traffic through... ALL of the staff had lined up, dropped trou, and blocked the bus from going until magda (bus driver/half owner) literally bumped them with the bus... then they parted like the red sea and proceeded to pound on the windows screaming their final "i love you" 's etc etc. it was so sweet of them... on some level any way! so we reached the airport and while we were waiting for the ticket office to open jimmy informed me that my bonus was probably becuase not only was i one of only two female bartenders in the whole place but that i was technically senior staff, having been there the third longest of the seasonal workers. talk about a fast turn over rate- 3.5 months n i'm senior staff, rock on! but hey my immediate boss in huggin him goodbye told me that i was indeed his favorite, his number one, n he'll miss me- but that could just be because i was one of the only ppl (or maybe THE only person) that never showed up to work late and/or drunk... hmmm- either way, i'll be missed @ the palace and i'll be missing it. it was a great time, a crazy summer and it raced on by... but now it's time for my next great adventure, i'll be going back to school on the 27th for NSO once again (new student orientation), n that's sure to be a blast, it always is!! and then school picks up again about a week after. then come december i'll be heading out to canada for jimmy's older brother's wedding- i'm going to freeze to death, canada in december... ouch... well neway, the pictures are soon to be coming with extensive captions yet again so you'll be sure to hear more stories of my summer shortly. just have to find where i put those batteries so i can turn the camera on again!! thanks for all of the well wishes and prayers for travelling mercies which- outside of the five, yes that's right folks count them FIVE crying babies (which in case you didn't realize, infants apparently operate under the same laws as dominoes- one sets them all off, so between the booze cruise bruises and the crying babies the 12 hr flight home was slightly less than pleasant- but @ least the wheels down was sort of gentle) all within two rows of me - wasn't that bad. much love to you all, i hope to see you soon... xoxoxox
