Warning!!
Coconuts kill!!! Friday 7th July We landed at the resort and I was given bed number 202 - which as it turns out was exactly the same number given to a German girl. Didn't think she was up for sharing a bed - hadn't even bought her a drink!!. So went back and asked for a new bed number. Seems the dorms were full so I got a Bure (small little house - usually for couples/families), but had to share with two other German girls - with only two beds! Seems I was destined to sleep with a German girl! ;-) They had the double I had the single and all was good.
This resort was a lot bigger than the previous ones. On the other shore was the famous Blue Lagoon used in the film of the same name. I grabbed some snorkel gear (had to put down $50 deposit and pay $5 a day!) and headed on the fifteen minute walk through the bush to get to the other shore. On the other shore there was a big private beach used by people who came to the Blue Lagoon in a big private yachts and cruise liners. Couldn't see how
Blue Lagoon Bay
late in the afternoon, spot the cruise ship, engine humming in the background... Very relaxing eh?? it was very relaxing as you could hear the engines/aircon units of the boats from the beach!
Snorkeling was pretty crap so I wandered down the beach (away from the private area of the beach) and came accross another resort (Nanwyana Resort)... with internet access!!! There was one PC and it was busy, so I bought a beer while I waited - $8!!!! Should have realised this was a 'posh' resort - there were signs on the trees saying "Beware Falling Coconuts" LOL There are coconut trees all over Fiji and that was the first place I had seen a warning sign! Finally I got online and had no bloody emails waiting for me!!! So I sat and watched the sunset with a couple of girls from our resort and wondered back.
We had a traditional Lovo meal which was really nice. There was then traditional dance, etc, which wasn't my thing - especially when they started grabbing people up to join in - made some excuse and left sharpish!
Saturday 8th July Woke up and went looking through the rock pools - found a crab, some fish.. oh and battery... then another battery.. and another... The
litter in Fiji really turns me off the place...
We went on a trip to some underwater caves. You had to swim underwater a short distance to get in to these huge caverns. There was one of the huge spiders in one of them - nasty looking things!
A couple of Fijians climbed up the rocks to jump in (see
here). Me and one other guy managed to get half as high, but it was very difficult - no one else even manged that far. The whole experience was too rushed and with too many people to be really enjoyable.
Noticed how every resort has at least one or two dogs and they have the 'cava eye' (bloodshot) like most of the guys in Fiji. Think they get fed the cava residue! They just sleep all day too!
Played volley ball (really getting i to it!) and invented my own game of 'beach cones' which me and my German Bure mates played for a while. Then walked down the beach to a place that does really big of chocolate cake and a big cup of tea (they have morning and afternoon tea in most resorts -
very British Empire throw back!).
Our Bure has a padlock on the front door and at one point I left and locked it - with the German girls inside, for about an hour LOL Definately not getting laid there!! LOL
Our Bure was right on the sea front, with the sea a metre away at high tide. There was lots of rain and windy stormy conditions - I didn't sleep well and I dreamt the Bure had been washed away and I had to save the two German girls...
