Hanabi Festival
All dressed up in our Yukata's! Hello All!!
Well, July and August are festival months here in Japan. The people celebrate the summer season with "Hanabi" festivals (or firework festivals), Yukata parties, and much more. There seems to be something going on all most every weekend somewhere in Japan. It's actually very exciting.
So on July 29th, Shin Urayasu had their Hanabi festival. Those of you who don't know...I live in the city of Shin-Urayasu. Anyways, after work all the old and new Ariel’s got all dressed up in our Yukata's and headed out to the sea wall where the fireworks were. Yes, you heard me right...old and new Ariel’s...the new cast for the next contact is here now doing rehearsals and will take over when my cast goes home. But yeah, we had to go and reserve a spot at 11:00am because the whole city attends the festival and even at 11:00 it was already packed. At about 5:30 we headed out. It's funny how people were staring at us. I guess seeing a bunch of gaijin girls dressed up in traditional Japanese Yukata's must look pretty funny to the locals.
Once we got there we had to fight the crowds to get to

The crazy amount of people....and this was still early! our spot. It was a zoo...a thousand drunken Japanese people all having a great time. It was funny how each little family had a table which they all sat around and ate their sushi and other traditional Japanese cuisine and then you had the spots that had a bunch of passed out friends all sprawled out all over each other.
So, we waited for the fireworks to start. It was a beautiful night. However, as the first one was set off, it started to rain. And of course it didn't just rain, it poured!!! I was literally sitting in a lake. I was actually ringing out my Yukata. We were soaked. But the fireworks went on. The show lasted about an hour. It was amazing. The nicest fireworks I've ever seen, and just as they finished...so did the rain. Annoying hey?
Once the show was over we all packed up our stuff and headed back to E-Village. All the dirt we were sitting on had turned into mud and it was a mess. The mud actually ate my flip flops. It was pretty nasty. But I guess if it hadn't all worked out the way it did...I wouldn't have a
