Today we were ready for the boat at 11. The gendarmes have told us that the ship was coming. We have seen them in the lagoon, but they have returned to the other side. The gendarmes have not told us that they are coming a bit later again. Then they themselves have taken their own boat to pick up a visiting delegation. Later 2 big bosses of gendarmes in civil with their families have told us that the boat in the morning has been canceled and there is one in the afternoon, at 6PM. That is the reason that the police have taken their own boat to taxi the bosses. No one has told us directly that the boat 11 is canceled, later they explained to us that has been due to bad weather (some wind today, but any inflatable motorboat had not had problems, all lies). We were staying there without food, yesterday we gave what was left to a Dutch guy that had problems with he boats too and had no provisions to last until Saturday for the ship to Villa O'Higgins. Finally a Chilean shared his rice with us, we had a nap and a big ship has arrived at 6. The lady charged 195 Argentinian pesos fot the ride ( $ 20 to change) , but if you were paying in dollars you pay 25 dollars and if you were paying in Chilean you pay 20 lucas (almost 40 dollars to change). So, Argentinian mafia at its best. There has been considerable anger on the ship, a German lady got almost cheated, and other stories. At 7:30 riding on the bike to El Chaiten. After 2 km my bike has made an ugly noise, it seems that a stone has gotten into the rear gear, is stuck in the changing arm, and being uphill, the changing has finished risen. We have tried various repairs and odd jobs, but finally it has only worked the trick of the City-Bike, which is to seek a slightly low gear, cut the chain to the appropiate measure, and thereafter you have a bike of one single speed. So we have traveled some km, flat and very slowly uphill very hard and in some places had to get off and push. It was dark, after 10, we've found a campsite with restaurant. Camping is not expensive , the restaurant is open, and dinner has been fantastic, so everything has ended well. The bike repair will be expensive and difficult if I do not find any used spare parts... I will care about that tomorrow.
