At Liverpool
At Liverpool with Cricket friends and Faith (aka - Miss Liverpool) Well hello to one and to all
Well last time we left you we were about to head on a trip to Liverpool to visit our friends Dave and Faith, also picking up Tayls along the way. (For my side of the readers, these are cricket friends of Steve's and Faith is Daves g/f. Now also our friend and Miss Liverpool 2006!)
We had a fanatastic time and we are planning on returning this week for a few more days. We were only there for a couple of days so we had a quick walk around the docks at Liverpool and went out for the evening. We visited some fantastic clubs, including a converted church. Although it was spectacular, I did feel a little guilty having alchohol that wasnt church wine in the house of the Lord. (They still have paintings of Jesus on the wall........)
Not long after our trip, Steve and I got all dressed up and attended the Isham Ball. A cricket club nearby that has an annual summer dinner. We were invited to attend along with some of the other players from Burton. We had a great time dancing the night away. I even

All dressed up.... managed to win a bottle of wine!
Some of the Mums and daughters involved at Burton Cricket Club (including me) got together to play a cricket match to raise some money for charity. We all had a great day and I think the spectators enjoyed it as well. Each ball was a new adventure and you never knew what would happen next. Safe to say, not many of us had much skill, but we gave it all we had and managed to raise a bit of money for a good cause. I managed around 16 runs and I ran someone out (after dropping the catch), I also found it very difficult to walk for the next couple of days. The quick singles really work some muscles I forgot that I had.
We managed a day trip to the Peaks District, the hilly part of the otherwise incredibly flat countryside of England. Red and Linda (The cricket club Chairman and his wife, oh and their dog came too) showed us a lovely day out, showing us some beautiful scenery and also taking us to view Chatsworth House. This is where the Duke of Devonshire lives and has been maintained
Ready for Cricket
I borrowed Steve's gear for the day. I figured I might as well look the part considering I cant play it! and restored for visitors to view. A magnificent building, inside and out, set upon a huge estate as far as the eye can see. I think the best word to describe it would 'Grand'. Parts of the estate, including the House were used in the 2005 remake of 'Pride and Prejudice'. It really was fantastic to see.
The weather here has been suprisingly good. From all accounts it was the hottest July on record and I think we had around 6 weeks of good weather. We took the opportunity to visit the seaside at Huntstanton which is about an hour away from where we are. Once we arrived we took a walk around and got some lunch. A very cute sea side town with rides along the waterfront and a real carnival atmosphere. We then decided to take a walk down to the water which took us about 20 minutes since it was low tide. I have never seen water receed so far out to sea. There were still people up to 200 meters further out than us, and they were only in knee deep water! So although there was no swimming for us that day, we had a

We made a successful trip down to London a few weeks ago. We had the chance to catch up with Jade and have some really nice Yum cha (Dim Sum over here) for lunch and managed to organise our transport around Europe. We are leaving England on the 18th September and will be returning to London in late October. In that time we will travel by bus around various parts of Europe. We both are very excited. Although sad to be leaving all the people at Burton.
We have also made a visit to the Queens Royal Residence at Windsor Castle (Thanks again to Red and Linda). The place is HUGE! Unfortunately the Queen was elsewhere, so we didnt manage a royal sighting.
The weather has taken a turn for the worse the last week or so and temps are back down to around 18 degrees most days and quite a bit of rain about. Hopefully no games get called off from here on in as Burton needs to win each game in order to stay at the top of the table.
I think that keeps you pretty much updated for now. I will
Steve and Elle
Steve getting close to Elle at Maddam Tussauds in London try to write again before we head off in a few weeks and then again with many more stories when we return from Europe.
Miss you all lots and lots. Feel free to come visit anytime!
Talk soon - Liz
