Here I am in Morocco checking one more continent off my list. We flew Royal Air Maroc out of JFK when it was 34 degrees. The plane trip was not long, about 6 hours. We decided to splurge a little on this trip so we are flying business class. Now on Royal Air Maroc that just means we get some good food and slightly wider seats. They were not as wide as on US Air. Movies were old but they did have Casablanca.
We arrived very early this morning, about 5:30 local time. The hotel is nice, a 5 star but those of you who travel know that is relative to the country.
After a massage for me and quick nap for Ernest, we had lunch then set out for a little stroll. It is in the 70's and beautiful clear skies. Our hotel is on the Atlantic so they have a promenade down the street close to water. It's Saturday so a lot of people are out, kids playing soccer. There were several places to eat so we stopped at a small cafe. There is no beach and all the restaurants are right on top of the ocean.
We had Moroccan tea, a very good mint tea. Our waiter taught us how to pour the tea.
Ernest has been here before. My initial observations are that the city is very clean, no graffiti or trash around. Watching the people so far, at least here in Casablanca, this is a modern Muslim city, like Istanbul, where women are out working, many have no head covering and there are open displays of affection, especially with the young. I'm sure this will much different as we head for other parts tomorrow.
We meet our tour mates and guide later today in the lobby. We are using G Adventure Tours this time, which is a new experience for us, and I'm anxious to see more rural parts And looking forward to tasting regional cuisine.
