Mom and Dad in their Yukatas... Hello Everyone,
Well, here is the other half of my parents trip here in Japan. We have had so much fun. I really enjoyed their company and now will miss them very much...even though I will see them so soon. Wednesday turned out to be another rainy day. Mom and Dad were planning on going on a bus tour around Tokyo but decided that since a typhoon was expected to come that they would skip the tour and relax in their hotel room until I was done work. So after work, I went to their hotel to meet them and I took them to a place called an "onsen." An onsen is a traditional Japanese hot spring. It's a place of relaxation and peace. When we first got there we booked a massage and picked out our Yukata's, then met in the hot springs. There are many different pools there and each one contains a different mineral and temperature. It was really nice. We relaxed for about an hour and 15 minutes and then headed in for our massages. Now this was the best part. We each got a 20 minute massage and they were the best massages we've
Asakusa
In front of the Kaminarimon Gate. ever had. They were even straddling us. It was sagoy ne....(which means amazing). After our massages, we drank some green tea and then we went downstair for dinner. We went to a chinese restaurant. The food was also very good. After dinner we gat some sticky picks done and fooled around in the arcade for a little while and then changed out of our Yukatas and went home to sleep.
On Thursday after work we headed out into Tokyo to do some sight seeing. Since Mom and Dad skipped their bus tour we had some things to see. So, we went on the train and headed toward Asakusa. Asakusa is where some of the most popular temples are located. We saw the Kaminarimon Gate at the main entrance to the Asakusa Kannon Temple, the Kannon temple itself and many other small shrines in the Asakusa area. We also saw in the distance the Asahi beer building and the olympic torch. It was a very exciting day full of interesting history.
After we left Asakusa, we made our way by train to Ueno. We went to Ueno Park for a while and explored the grounds. We found the Tosho-gu
Shibuya
The Busiest Intersection in the World! shrine and the Kan'ei-ji Temple. They were both very beautiful. We started to get eaten by little bugs so we decided to head back home to Maihama station and had some dinner and then went home for the night.
The next day I had early shift and then met Mom and Dad at the train station where we then headed out to Shibuya. Shibuya has the worlds busiest intersection and the worlds busiest Starbucks. In other words, there are a whole lot of people. We first went to the Bunkamara theater to pick up our tickets to the "acroatic Swan Lake" that started at 7:00 that night. Then we wondered the streets a little, went to a store called "Tokyo Hands" and then went to good old "Outback Steakhouse" for dinner. It was a very good meal. So, once we were done dinner we went back to the Bunkamara Theater to watch the Ballet. It was the best ballet I've ever seen. The main ballerina was also a contortionist and she danced on top of the male dancer's head....on pointe if you can believe it. Check it out at
, if you want to see the trailer for it.
Roppongi
View from the top of the Tokyo Tower! It is amazing. After the ballet we headed back home for the night.
Unfortunately, Saturday was a very stormy day. We had huge thunderstorms and mass amounts of rain. I believe that the typhoon they had been predicting that week finally hit. It was a nasty day outside. So, we hung out at my place instead of venturing out in the rain. It was actually really nice to just relax and chit chat with eachother. I had a really nice day with them. It's funny how even the most simple days turn out to be the best.
Sunday was our last day together. We decided to go to Roppongi to see the Tokyo Tower and wander the streets a little. The weekends in Tokyo are the busiest days of the week. Especially during the peak summer season. There are millions of people out doing the same thing we were of course. We had to wait in a line for an hour to get to the top of the Tokyo Tower. It was insane. But I guess it was worth it in the end. Once we finally got there we got to see an amazing view of Tokyo from
Onsen
Enjoying Chinese Food at the Onsen the observation deck. It was a very clear day so we lucked out because we could see pretty far. Once we were finished on the observation deck we headed back down the tower and got in a cab. We then walked the streets of Roppongi for a while going into a few shops here and there and then finished our adventure off with dinner at T.G.I.Friday's....how Japanesey of us hey? Then after dinner we went back to my place, watched a movie, made fun of the Japanese game shows and then headed off to bed.
So, that was our trip together. Mom and Dad left this afternoon. We had breakfast together and hung out for a little while before they had to catch their bus to the airport. It's weird how quiet it is around here. On my way home from work I had to stop and remind myself that I didn't have to go to their hotel room anymore. I really enjoyed their company and it just made me more excited to see them at home very shortly. Well, that's all for now....
Love always,
Megs
