I had my first Italian exam for my class today, and despite the fact that I was completely exhausted from being out entirely too late last night, I think I did pretty well. Things are getting pretty exciting, as Siena is preparing for the Palio, a horserace that happens twice every summer in Siena (I'll explain it in more detail after it happens when I know a little more. I've been reading about it, but I won't fully understand it until it happens, especially because I've been reading about it in Italian...). But basically, Siena is divided into seventeen sections, (each section is called a contrada), and they compete in the horserace held in the Piazza del Campo. The different contrade have been having these huge outdoor parties that I've been going to, and they are pretty fun. They have bars and places to get ice cream set up, as well as games and, the best part...great dancing (Mom and Dad, I honestly haven't had that much to drink at them because I always have class in the morning, but, while I'm being honest, it has still been incredibly difficult to wake up early for class....). Last night was the final party, so it was especially crowded and crazy. I was excited to dance to some fun Italian music, but the funniest thing was when the YMCA came on and the crowd went crazy. It was really hilarious to see a crowd of drunk Italians go wild for the YMCA. There was one middle-aged gentleman in particular who got his groove on like I've never really quite seen before.
Tomorrow I am taking a bus trip with my school to two towns in Tuscany, Pienza and Montepulciano. We are getting tours of the towns and then we are doing something with a show (I think seeing a show, but also talking with some actors? I have to spend some time with my dictionary) in Montepulciano, so I'll guess I just have to see what happens. Then, on Sunday I am taking a day trip to Florence with a group of girlfriends, so I'm pretty excited about that. I'm going to get a lot of rest tonight to get ready for my exciting and busy weekend and next week, especially because I think I'm coming down with a little cold...

hugs and kisses !
Elizabeth! I just read your blog for the first time today... Steph had to give me the address... but I am all caught up on your adventures now. It sounds like you're having a wonderful time! I especially liked your story about the bathtub and the old man kissing you.... Definitely sounds like something that could happen to you in any country (even on the blue bus!) because you make friends so easily :o) Keep having a great time! I miss you lots and I'm thinking of you! Love, Kel
