We are on the Castle Road for a short time. It actually runs from Prague, CZ to Mannheim, Germany, and we will be on only pats of it, but the castles, fortresses or Burgs are impressive and many have been restored for modern use. This may be museums, restaurants, event venues, concert venues or many other functions. After climbing rugged paths to some, we have realized that all must have access roads that even our Mh might fit. However, the challenge of blood, sweat and tears, sometimes increases our enjoyment.
Bayreuth was our entrance to the 'road' and then we stayed in Kulmbach, at a stellplatz immediately next to the Old Town, with great walking areas and a map to follow thru town. Lots of showers limited some of our photo opportunities, but we became quite familiar with the shops, antique buildings and finally with the bus that took us up the torturous road to the castle. It was well worth the confrontation with wind and rain at the castle as we spent hours going thru the tin museum. It houses over 300,000 pieces on 4 floors and they are handcrafted, hand painted and displayed in magnificent dioramas, vignettes, shadowboxes, wall hangings, etc. and show battles, explorations, ancient life styles, from Neanderthals thru wars, peaceful times, etc. A sample workshop of an early tin worker was set up for our information. There were other museum offerings as well, but none that intrigued us as much as the tin. these pieces ranged from minute to fairly large and represent clubs and members from all over the world. We met a German couple who have spent a lot of vacation time in the USA and enjoyed telling us about their trips and that they have now visited 28 of our states.
On to Kronach, for another castle adventure. This one on foot, up a steep trail and of course eventually in the rain. The restaurant is closed and the 'cafeteria ' consists of 2 vending machines. The exterior of the castle is all that is available for viewing at this time. So after a quick lunch we are looking forward to spending some time in Coburg.

Be advised that we have a shortage of internet sites and so our next blog could be published in a day or so.

In your air-space
Hi Jan & Guy, Just got back from 2 weeks in cloudy Germany myself. Was in Frankfurt for almost a week before heading down to Lake Constance (Bodensee) for our family reunion on the second weekend. Spent the balance of that week in the Stuttgart area with my cousins. Was fabulous other than the weather, which thankfully didn't really interrupt with any of our plans. Wasn't sure where you were but I dutifully peered into every Wohn Wagon we passed along the way to see if you were among them! Keep on truckin! Monica
