Dollywood Music Show
Singing and Dancing to Country Music! Friday morning we left Nashville bound for Pigeon Forge and Dollywood, the major destination of our trip. We made our camp at Pine Mountain RV park and set out to get an overview of Pigeon Forge. We decided Pigeon Forge was like Branson on steroids!
Shop, restaurants and amusement parks everywhere, including all the Ripleys attractions and go cart tracks you can imagine. We are in the south- Nascar rules! We ate dinner at a good local restuarant, JT Hannah's, sharing bbq ribs and chicken and liked it so well, ate there the next night too! After dinner the first night, we visited a couple of arts and crafts stores and called it an early night so we could get up bright and early for our day at Dollywood. We did mange to get in a little swim time before bed. Our RV park has a nice hotel across the street complete with an indoor heated pool and hot tub and an outdoor heated pool and lazy river and we had complete access as RV park visitors. We made good use of these every evening!
Saturday morning we were up ready for a good breakfast and to head to
Beautiful Landscaping at Dollywood
The landscaping is one of my favorite parts of any amusement park! Dollywood. Another thing we noticed about Pigeon Forge is that it is the pancake capital of the world! Pancake houses were on every corner. Our first morning we ate at The Red Rooster- Kenny had an omelet (of course) and I had to try, what else, the pancakes. Delish!
Dolllywood was wonderful! Reminded us a lot of Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO with lots of arts and crafts, music shows and rides. The landscaping was spectacular! As we entered, I grabbed a map and of course, the show schedule and began making plans so we would not miss anything!
First on the agenda was a gospel quartet, followed by a string band and then a movie about Dolly and her beloved Great Smokey mountains. We rode a real coal powered train around the park and about a mile into the woods and had the coal cinders all over us to prove it!
Also saw a cute country singing and dancing show and the big country show, but our favorite was the show performed by Dolly's sister, brother and neice, called the My People show. Can't say all the shows were top notch, with the exception of
the big country show, which was great. However, we enjoyed them all. The other highlight was getting to tour Dolly's tour bus ( retired) and touring her museum. Tons of her memorabilia, costumes, shoes, pictures- she never threw anything out- as she would admit!
After the museum, we decided to call it a day at Dollywood. We had taken the tram from our campground ( encouraged locally to keep down the traffic) and took it back to the station. Kenny decided we should walk back to the main road and eat at JT Hannah's again. He knew it was just a block or two. Well... turned out to be three or four and then another three or four back to the campground, but it was all good.
All in all a great day at Dollywood! Life is Good!
