My first entry. Well, I'm not really travelling at the moment but everyday is like a mini holiday in some way which is why I work overseas and not in my home country.
This year I find myself in lovely Laos - but it's taken a long time for me to feel that it is that - lovely. Anyone ever been to Vientiane? It's a city that grows on you. If it grows on you. It took six months for it to grab me in any meaningful way. There are days now when I wonder how I will drag myself away from the peaceful days that seem to flow slowly from one to the next, but it must be done, and all in just over a month's time. I've never been good at imagining myself in one place while I'm still in another, but a gentle excitement is beginning to simmer somewhere inside me as time vanishes.
The city is at its best today. The sun keeps breaking through a clouded sky and it's the time of year when a breeze can be found wandering the streets; especially pleasant at night. The only thing I miss are the spectacular sunsets of a couple of months ago. The sky would light up with electric blues and vivid hues of pink that would stream through the far window of my house. Beautiful evenings.
Over the next month I will be saying goodbye to this city in bites.
Let's see what tomorrow brings.
