A late start today meant getting on the interstate for a while. I have not missed the noise, wind buffeting, and semis on the small roads we've taken the last few days. Now trying to make up time, and make some westward progress of substance. Ian keeps telling me that even if we only travelled 300 kms per day, we would still be home by the first week of July. Guess I should take time to look at the map and distances left to travel.

With no destination in mind other than somewhere to the right (thanks John) and further along than yesterday, we met up with the madness on Interstate 64 and, 3 hours later, climbed off slightly beaten up here in bluegrass country, Lexington, Kentucky. Hotel choices here were excellent, and we're in the Marriott Suites Inn right next door to the Red Mile Harness Track, which apparently is the second oldest harness track in the US. I don't particularly care :-). I'd like a room on the other side of the hotel please. When we googled the top 10 things to do in Kentucky, 9 of them involved visiting horse farms and tracks. I don't think so, for me, anyway. Ian would visit only if I wanted to visit. Personally, I think horseracing is cruel and exploitive, and it would upset me to see these touted "attractions". Plan B. Walk downtown in 30 degree humidity, sweat more than most of the young joggers running past us, check out the town and have dinner. Back to hotel for a swim, write blog, check weather, check route for tomorrow, bed. Sound familiar?

Things that jumped out today: exceptional rest areas, green and clean facilities, US highways excels in this department; dead downtown with lots of appealing bars and restaurants empty - maybe we're earlybirds and the action happens later in the evening? Distilleries - whiskey, bourbon; Tobacco associations; horse farms encompassed with miles of white fences; gravel tracks, all empty (thank goodness); heat heat heat and more heat.

Short boring blog today. See you tomorrow, somewhere in Missouri we think.
