Ten years on the wish list, it was good time to knock it off by adding to the list of training runs/walks.

Porangahau Point to The Wreck. Approximately 16 kilometers of, at low tide a vast beach area broken by the Porangahau River Mouth 4 kilometers from start.

One very beautiful morning, 1 hour before low tide we set off with great excitement up the beach.
I've got the cuppa, Jessie's always keen, Kaye's along for the jaunt. The intention is to carry the gear across at the shallowest point, probably get wet to the chest.

An hour later up and down the river bank, in for little testers. There are no shallower spots, just deep and deeper. I am getting " Plonker got any more bright ideas?" from team members.

Thankfully i did not panic and try floating logs, which would surely have meant, wet camera. Over a cup of tea it was decided to purchase an assault craft the next day and weather providing, have another go the following day. Also up for discussion was nutrition or the lack of it. It was decided that a lot more research was needed to arrest

Bo's weight loss, perhaps provide some weight gain and more energy. I will explain more, re the importance of the Calorie intake at a later stage, closer to D Day.

Beginning to dawn on me at this late stage what a big task this really is. Not just buy a pack, some sharp shoes, do the required kilometers, jobs done.

Another beautiful day dawns, same crew but with the addition of a blown up assault craft. It was suggested that the tide would be well in if we intended to do a river bank blow up of our craft.

An hour later we are having a cuppa on the other side of the river, feeling pleased with ourselves after a successful crossing.

I then took to the soft sand to practice my shuffle while the others headed up the vast beach. The soft sand shuffle has been adopted as a permanent long distance jog, not a race winner haha, but something that may get me there in reasonable condition.

We are all getting a bit tired by the time we get to the Wreck, so its another quick cuppa, fresh water for Jessie and a

22 kilometers, 12 of it in the soft sand.

Subsequently did another 2 days of 20 ks in the soft sand, I thought an excellent way to exercise on a beautiful, ever changing beach
