Hello everyone,
sounds like there have been some storms up there in the north. We had a big rain storm today and the sound of the thunder was so loud that people were screaming... luckily it was in the afternoon and not during VBS. We returned to Belair for Day two and there were 39 kids there, 9 of whom were under age 5. They were so great making popup cards in crafts, playing what time is it Mr. Wolf and singing Let me see your alligator. It sounded a bit like a church picnic and they love the action songs. My heart was warmed by the smile and cuteness of a two year old named Kevin-who doesn't really speak but for a few moments almost fell asleep in my arms. Then there was Darienne who with 10 minutes to go from the end of the day, cried how she wanted to go home. There was also a girl named Karita whose grandmother owns a store across the street. Karita is from Toronto and goes to school at Kent P.S. not far from my house. There are many siblings who attend and they seem to be engaged and enjoying what they are learning. The leaders who I am working with are so great with the kids and are showing amazing enthusiasm.
We return to Belair for two more days this week and then have our homestay on the weekend. I am going to be staying in St. George's with my friends Fran from Guyana and Cartina from here in Grenada.

I will just close by saying that after dinner tonight I stood with four friends staring off into the Western sky to watch the sunset--Sulena is from Jamaica, Rachel from HongKong and Fran from Esquiebo, Guyana. It was such a special moment as the sun set behind the mountains near Mt. St. Ervans. Never again will the sunset like that or will I be surrounded from friends from around the world. A fitting end to a great day of sun and rain here in Grenada.

Thank you to all of who have been posting messages. Jenn-Congrats on the job! Hooray for you. Mom and Dad happy packing for the cottage and to the rest of you. Hope you are well. Think of you often. More stories to share upon my return.

love Katy

I just want to be a sheep--baa, baa, baa,baa
Sounds like you are having a great time! FYI- "I just want to be a sheep" was a hit song in the South African Orphanage last summer too! I hope the rest of VBC goes well and you enjoy your home stay. I'm heading back to Ontario today after a glorious month here in the Maritimes. I'm looking forward to catching up with you in August. Love, Martha

Tropical sunsets
Yeah...it's those little moments when you travel...the realization that you're experiencing something you might never again. Grab every moment, make it all count the way you always do. Gladys

blessings katy ... for your heart for children...
Hi Katy! Thanks so much for your wonderful and colorful travel stories! Children are amazing aren't they! They capture your heart and teach you to love... speaking of young ones, i recently saw 5 orca whales in the ocean between the tiny islands near Vancouver Island - looked like they were parents and babes! They were so free and so beautiful! I will keep you in my prayers as you work with these precious children! My own precious ones are away this summer - Naomi is in France and Talisa is touring across Canada! Blessings to you, always. joy
