I'm here. I've actually done it. I have made it across to the other side of the world. First stop has been Hong Kong - 3 days of noodles, gin and amazing culture. It's been great to be somewhere so different from home and to eat Chinese food actually in China. Though here it's just called food.

Following a very emotional goodbye with my family it was off to Heathrow, where I met up with around 20 other travellers. Was so nice to meet people in exactly the same boat and it certainly helped with the nerves. 12 hours later and we arrived in Hong Kong. I didn't manage any sleep on the plane, and had been awake 26 hours, but we perservered and fought through the jet lag to go out and explore. I have seen and experienced far too much stuff to go into details, so here's a bullet point list for you:

> took a cable car up into the mountains to greet a giant Buddha

> Explored the streets of Kowloon to find our first Chinese dinner

>Drank gin to calm the nerves and overcome the jetlag

> Took a tour of Hong Kong island and explored the cool back streets

> Visited the most beautiful monestry and nunnery I have ever seen

> Visited Victoria Peak for some amazing views of the city

> Took a water taxi around Aberdeen fishing harbour

And so so much more! We were fortunate to have an amazing tour guide who helped us get to know the city. I have some great photos which I will put on facebook at some point once I figure out how to get them off my phone and onto the iPad. I am having such an amazing time already and met some great people.

As I write this I am sat in Hong Kong airport awaiting an onward journey to Sydney. Very excited to get there now. Hong Kong has been amazing and I kind of wish I had another day or so, but will be good to get to Oz, see some sun and make a start on the tan :-)

Have so many stories to tell, but I'll save those for when I've more time to write. For now, I will leave you with the story of the "crouched wee". Hahaha. Short version is I went into a public bathroom, into the cubicle, only to find it was a hole in the floor with handrails. Seems I have quite strong thighs as I managed to hold myself in a squat and avoided peeing on my shoes. Feeling proud of myself, I left the cubicle, washed my hands, only then to be told that the other cubicles had proper toilets. Bugger. Still, funny experience.

My next blog will be from Sydney - another 9 1/2 hours on a plane, hopefully I'll get some sleep this time.

Lots of love from HK! Or "fragrant harbour" as is the literal translation :-)
