Hello everyone!
Welcome home Mom!

It has been a fun couple of days down here in Grenada. I continue to get mosquito bites-they love us Canadians. We got the chance to go into Grenville a couple of days ago to get all our stuff for VBS. It is neat to see how different the stores are down here. A lot of mixed bag stores, a couple of clothing and furniture, but the town is not the cleanest. There are banners that hang in the streets and people are everywhere. We even saw a funeral procession of people walking down the street following the hearse and loud music playing. We got all of our supplies for Vacation Bible Camp and my friends Lindsey, Ryan and Asha had the hardest time finding tie dye. Things are hard to find down here and they are expensive. If only we had known we could have brought them from home. Any way, not to worry.

Today was our beach day. We took a bus up to Levera National Park in the NOrth of the Island. It was so neat to see the houses as we drove through the countryside. Many have been rebuilt out of concrete and even raised on pillars. There are goats, cows and roosters everywhere and mangoes, breadfruit and lemons that hang on the trees. We got to the park and took an hour hike along the beach. It was like Pirates of the Caribbean but no pirates. The view was spectacular and we took about 30 pictures of each other with the view. Indescribable.

We got to the beach, sunscreened up with 45-at least the white Canadians did and went into the Caribbean sea. Not thinking about the fact that the sun was at its peak we swam any way in the salt water and picked seashells on the beach. Emma-got some nice ones to make jewelry, can't wait to show you. Derek and I traded shells as we found them along the beach.

For lunch we headed to Jeremiah's kiosk-a Grenadian shack that served the yummiest fried chicken and chips. Yum Yum. The food here in Grenada is quite traditional but is getting a bit boring. We are grateful to have food, but I don't eat bread at home and we eat it here daily so that is hard to get used to, but the juice is organic and most often we drink starfruit.

Any way, Jeremiah was a very kind man who made great food, but some people waited for an hour and a half to get their food. Island time.

We even watched as some played cricket before we headed back to St. Ervans.

I am now sunburnt despite the use of sunscreen and a hat... such is the life.

Continuing to have a wonderful time.

Wish you could be here.

Love always,
Katy

Hey Katy! I miss you! But I love hearing all of your stories. How do you like the travelblog, it's great isn't it? Good luck and have fun, and try not to get too burned. xoxkt

Hot fun, hot chicken
I don't know if you can see these comments, Katy, but I'll try anyway. I seriously think that I could eat chicken and chips for a couple of weeks straight but I know that it's tough when it's blazing hot every day. Jason used to drag me to McDonald's when we were in China. Imagine eating an Extra Value Meal in 40-degree heat. Disgusting. I love the descriptions of tropical fruit everywhere and the Pirates comparison. Have you found your Orlando Bloom, yet...or better still...Johnny Depp? Hot fun indeed!
