Less than two weeks to go now and still a few things to finalise. Our final team meal last week gave us a chance to have a last catch up before Christmas and New Year. Talk so far has focussed on our vocational days, what to pack, how the presentation is looking and our nerves about leaving our normal lives behind for a whole month!
Meeting up regularly has given us all the opportunity to get to know each other. We have also been sending lots of texts and e-mails amongst ourselves as we become friendlier. The group dynamics are changing all of the times and I’m sure that they will continue to do so as we spend more time together and learn more about each other.
Some of us have e-mailed our hosts and had replies so this has been a great chance for us to learn more about where we are staying and who we will be living with. I was pleased to learn that one of my hosts has a son and daughter in their twenties. I also found some images online from a USA GSE team who visited Karnataka a couple of years ago. Although it was nice to look at these and get a feel for what we can expect in India, I didn’t want to ruin the trip by looking at too many pictures and making preconceptions about our own experience in January.
I started to tackle my packing last night and was surprised how few clothes I was taking. The weight of my case seems to be coming from electrical items and cosmetics! I think one of my biggest challenges will be not wearing high heels for a month, something I do every day at home!
I’m sure I will pack and repack many more times between now and Wednesday 2 January when we set off on our adventure!
