Koh Phangan! From horrible train journeys to beautiful sunshine to raging thunderstorms to jumping squirrels, it sure has been an adventure! Lets start with the overnight train, 12 hours of pure bliss! I joke, it was hell, words cannot describe how bad, you really have to try it to realise but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone! It was that bad that we have decided to cancel our train back to Bangkok and get a flight instead, lesson learnt! After another 5 hours of travelling via coach and boat we finally made it to Haad Rin in Koh Phangan, home of the full moon party! Unfortunately the next one isn't until Xmas day so we decided we would check out the black moon party which was on....we left as soon as we got there! They were charging more than they do for the full moon party to get in when it wasn't even busy and none of us are big trance lovers lol so back to Haad Rin beach and cactus bar! After a couple of buckets of the good stuff and watching the fire displays by the locals we were soon dancing the night away on tables, the way it should be! The next day was a tad overcast, the plan was to go venture around the island but it soon started to rain so it became a wifi and card playing day, accompanied with a few tiger beers of course! We had booked a trip for the next day so we decided to head to the reggae house for just a couple drinks and a chilled evening, they do a great mojito which Jonny can confirm and the best recliner chairs you will find on the island! Once we got back to the bungalow and got into bed the weather really took a turn for the worse and a raging thunderstorm hit the island, never has the sky looked so beautiful but scary at the same time, bright purple and pink flashes and a constant downpour of rain, one night we wont forget for sure. Day 3 - I think we all agree that this was the best day yet, for 20 pounds each we got to go on our own little guided tour of the island. We believe our tour guides names were Eke and Koy and Koy had a small creature on his shoulder, it looked like a cross between a squirrel and a bat. (We soon learnt it was a flying squirrel and her name was moo moo!) Anyways there I was happily making my cup of tea outside the tour shop when all of a sudden this creature flew onto my leg and run all the way up to my head! Scared is an understatement, I pooped myself and tried to fling it off before Koy came and got it off lol, only for it to do the exact same thing to Jonny two minutes later resulting in coffee being spilt everywhere ha, it set us up nicely for the day! First up was the Chinese temple, here we lit some incense sticks and made a wish and also met the Thai lady who lives there all alone! Then we headed to two of the Phangan waterfalls, we got to climb up the side of both of them with help from our tour guides and got some amazing pictures, yes we may have thought we were Spider-Man and been a bit cocky on some parts of the climbing but we made it up and down alive so all good! Next stop was for some traditional Thai lunch before being able to feed an elephant and give it a hug, Laura was a bit unsure at first but was fine in the end and the elephant even said thank you, we have the video to prove it! After lunch it was Robin Hood time, a bit of good old archery, the pictures tell the story best but needless to say I whooped Jonny's butt and even Laura hit the middle of the target, did someone say Rio 2016!? Now it was time for some kayaking to a deserted island off Koh Phangan, I opted to go on my own probably as I was still feeling manly after winning the archery...big mistake! My arms have never had such a workout and needless to say I went with one of the guides on the way back! The island was beautiful though and we got to relax in a little cove of fairly warm sea water which suddenly got pretty deep as we soon realised! Once back to the island it was off to a herbal sauna, now I have had one or two of these before but this was just too much, I barely lasted 5 minutes and Laura and Jonny weren't to keen either, going to have to find another way to sweat out all this beer! So after about 6 hours we finally were dropped back to the bungalow, a little sunburnt, most definitely tired but totally worth it after the day we had, would recommend it to anyone, just beware of moo moo the flying squirrel! To end off our Koh Phangan trip we went and had dinner at the outback bar, a typical English place where I had bangers and mash and Laura enjoyed some good old pie and mash, home comforts are needed sometimes :-). Overall we have enjoyed Koh Phangan, was a nice release to get out of the city and enjoy some freedom and a bit more sun, its fairly quiet unless the full moon party is on but there is still plenty to do. Anyways we are now on our way to the Koh Sok national park for a few days in a treehouse, I don't think we will be getting much wifi there that's for sure lol, will blog again soon people, hope you enjoyed reading!
