Safe Arrival-Beginning of an intercultural conversation

Hello everyone!

We arrived safely after our flight from Toronto to Barbados, then on to Tobago, and then Grenada after the sun set. There was a workers strike in Barbados so we were a bit late getting away.

On the plane ride down I sat between a Trinidadian and a woman from Barbados who talked about the merits of silver fish and jack fish. The Caribbean from the air is a beautiful sight and so I took some pictures from the plane.

After checking in and out of immigration in Barbados, we even had a tourist rep meet us in Grenada. We met the contingent from Guyana and headed into the town of St. George's. It is a port town, but nothing like anything I have ever seen. We got to see it in the dark but it is well lit with lots of boats in port-fishing and cargo ships-even a few dance ships.

We then chatted over linguistic and cultural differences with our new friends: Laau from New Zealand, Roger, Danique, Daylon, Fran and Ray from Guyana, Ryan and Derek from the US and Bryan from St. Kitts. There are now people here from Trinidad, Curacao, Madagascar, Jamaica, all over the Caribbean. We then travelled by bus to the northeast of the country near the town of Grenville where we are staying at the Mt. St. Ervans Retreat centre.

This afternoon we are going to meet more of everyone and find out where they are from.

Having a wonderful time.

We went to church this morning and have just had a fabulous lunch here.

Everyone is so friendly and the scenery is beautiful.

love you all.

New beginnings...
Hey, Katy... Sounds like the journey there was amazing and you've got an amazing group of people to hang out with for the next few weeks. Remember that your mission for this trip (in addition to saving the world) is to make me thoroughly jealous with your stories of action and adventure. And my mission is to ward off any chance of you getting homesick so here it is...Samuel took a poo in his bath last night. What is THAT????!
