We took are first overnight Russian train to Moscow which left at midnight and arrived at 5.00 am. We didn’t get much sleep – no ear plugs and the train was really rocky so we were walking around like zombies for an hour and a half trying to find our hostel. We couldn’t check in untill two so had a quick look round Moscow before going back for a disco nap and that was the end of our first day…

Second day (after paying back our sleep debt) we headed to the Kremlin and the Armoury Chamber. Here they have the largest silver collection in the world and had all Knight suits (unfortunately they didn’t have my size!), swords, guns and horse carriages which where brill! After the Armoury we had a quick look around the Kremlin cathedrals which were so colourful and ornate.

Third day we went to went to St Basils Cathedral (the one you see in all the touristy stuff for Moscow) which really was absolutely beautiful – by this point wed had enough of cathedrals so went to Gorky Park and found ourselves a giant beanbag and sprawled out on it catching some rays. The park was amazing – it had paddelos, all types of bikes to rent, amusements, a spaceship and loads of other cool stuff who would have thought Russians liked to have fun! If we had of known about this park sooner we wouldn’t have bothered with all those cathedrals!! Lol

Fourth day we got the monorail to the Cosmonaut Museum then onto another park/industrial estate (it was so confused this place it didn’t know what It wanted to be!). That night we headed out with some guys we met from the hostel for a few beers and vodka shots.. it tasted the same as the stuff back home – stinking! I’ve got my eyesight back now thankfully lol.

The last day we just got ourselves prepared for the train to Irkutsk (huge bag filled with instant noodles and beer!) and relaxed the rest of the day.. we had planned to go the first ever McDonalds opened in Moscow/Russia, which had a 2 mile queue when it first opened (nearly as bad a Piccolas in Bangor at closing time on a sat night)! But due the vodkas the night before we didn’t make it 😞!

We liked Moscow more than St Petersburg – it was more relaxed and two people smiled to us while we were here!! The city feels like its slightly better maintained than St Petersburg and the parks were so cool. We loved St Petersburg too but Moscow was a nicer place to visit.

Next a 75 hour train ride to Irkutsk followed by a 7 hour bus trip to Olkhon Island then onto Mongolia to eat some sheep balls… maybe a two week package holiday would have been better!!

много любви Фил и Алана XOXO
