We had such a fun day with our trip. Our excursion on the Aleution Ballard started right from our dock, which was nice since it was down pouring. One of our captains was Derrick Ray who took over for a while after Capt. Phil Harris of the Corneila Marie passed away during Season 6 I believe.

We headed out to open water and they passed out raingear to those who were in the line of fire with the rain/winds. The captain and crew shared stories of their lives on the crabbing waters of the bering sea. We saw two different kinds of nets pulled up containing king crab and snow crap, similiar to Orphelia crap. We also saw dungeness crab and cod nets pulled on board. What was really neat is they took pictures with everyone and answered a host of questions. Definitely funny and worth the adventure.

The craziest part of our day today was waiting 20 minutes for a red bus who would drop us off at Rotary/Bugge Beach to search for sea glass in the pouring rain. A good plan but the driver told us he would be heading back by the beach in 6 minutes or we would have to wait an hour for him to come back. Since it is a 4 mile drive from ship we practically ran down to the beach, combed it quickly and figuring it would be impossible to find much other than the 1 I found, headed up to road. We waited 10 minutes, figured we missed bus and started walking the way back as we had 3 hours until our ship left. After walking 1.5 miles we came upon a gas station and I went in to call a cab. They told me red bus would be back in 5 minutes heading in the direction we just came from but would eventually take us back to town. We were happy to climb on board and ride the rest of way as layered in several layers and rain gear made walking 4 miles a very difficult walk. At least I found 1 and have the memory. 😊

Tomorrow is day at sea and then friday morning we depart from Vancover, B.C. for Michigan. Its been a terrific two weeks and can't believe its over already. ..
