At last some free time. Lectures in the morning, but the whole afternoon off. Today was a unique day in Reykjavík. Fine and warm (possibly the warmest day of the year), with the city Marathon on, and the Reykjavík summer festival on. Nice of them to put all this on for us!
It would appear that every single person in Iceland attended. There were people everywhere, thousands and thousands of people, with events and performances on every corner, and half a dozen big stages set up around the city centre. We saw the kids marathon around the lake (Tjornin).
We saw minute chess – where the moves fly so fast it is impossible to keep track. The queue for the bottle shop was twenty deep (gonna be some sore heads tomorrow morning for sure). Bands galore, string duets, a massive concert right across the road from our hotel, with fireworks. BIG fireworks. Which we heard but did not see, as we had a 5am wakeup call the next morning for our departure from Iceland off to Copenhagen. Which for the record is in Denmark, not Sweden.
FYI at 5.30am when we left the streets were STILL full of
very seedy looking sore heads who were shall we say a little bit tired and emotional!

And "Wow" again! I am so amazed at this big trip! So out there, literally! I am also very jealous as it sounds like a blast. Certainly different to your average holiday and on top of that no kids (bonus!). Just amazing to read your blog and LOVE the humour. Would so love to do it but the cold......not sure I could hack it! Any way enjoy the rest of the adventure (what will you be thinking when you return to sunny Batehaven after seeing such amazing things an experienceing the culture and way peoplelive! THat will be interesting to hear! in the mean time have a salted halibut on me! Barbara (Na zdrowie!)
