Sleeping beauty slept for 17.5 hours on arrival, while I slept for only 14 hours. As she said I guess we were tired!! Finally emerging from our accommodation at 5pm local time we walked to the touristy shopping street of Florida. Luckily everything stays open till late, as we went on the hunt for a local SIM card to get our phones working - not an easy task as it turned out. After a couple of false starts we sused where to go - but they were closed.

Our local superette's butcher was absent so we decided to splash out on a steak at the adjacent cafe. This was the cafe that Eileen and Fern frequented on their last trip. We shared a massive steak - it was good. The Argentineans grow good beef! We also had there specialty - fried cheese!! YUMMM..

Then it was time to Tango - El Beso was a short taxi ride away. They have a different theory with taxis at home it is aways a big 6 or recently hybrids, here it is miniature black and gold Fiats. El Beso was packed we had to wait for a table as Eileen requested that we be seated together. We got the worst table in the place, which we shared with 2 Frenchmen, Pierre and Hermes. Pierre was a hunting dog stalking the pray. Hermes was very reserved and had to be encouraged by Eileen. Both seemed competent but I will leave it to Eileen to comment as she danced with both of them.

I had my first Tango in BA with Eileen. I was a little rusty and my repertoire of moves was constrained by a lack of space. Then it was time to try the Cabeceo (Staring at a lady if she stares back then you dance). Located behind the ladies this was not the easiest. However when a tall lady looked my way a couple of times I gave her the eye and we were walking to the floor. She had a big frame and was around 5'10" so I guess she like the idea of dancing with a big guy. So onto the floor with my first lady from BA (Yes a genuine Argintinian woman). Well I survived the Tanda (4 songs) and she suggested a malonga for Monday night - so I guess I did okay. I sat for quite a while after an unsuccessful Cabeceo where we had given all the signals but I did not stand up and she went into conference with her friends as only ladies can do. She left shortly after - he who hesitates is lost on the cruel world of the dance floor! Then I saw a very tall lady, no hesitation this time. She was a whopper, almost as tall as me, and did not have the delicacy of movement that smaller ladies have. With Alison the English woman I did not have the same connection.

After Eileen had her second dance with the 'General' we headed for home. Only 2am too - after a debrief tea and biscuits we hit the sack at 4am local time!!

Our morning started a little abruptly at 10am when it sounded like 1000 punk rockers were having a party next door. After a little discussion we decided that there was a demolition job underway in one of he adjacent flats. Just before noon we stumbled towards the shower not quite as well rested as we could have been.

The quest for the holy grail (SIM card) was back underway. We located the shop from yesterday - no they do not do SIM - recommended someone else. We arrived but needed passport - back to the flat. Rejoined the queue to find that that was just to register for a position in line! So we had to leave it there as we had a lunch date with Cheryl Brown.

There is something about underground train systems in 2nd world countries that suggests danger - but we ventured in anyway. One way tickets are about 80 cents NZ. So the price was right! We managed a multi line journey without incident. The most interesting thing was that the passengers open the doors. They do this in anticipation of the train stopping. At one stop a little lady (elbow high) was getting a little perturbed that I wanted the train to stop before I opened the door.

Cafe de Los Angelitos was very nice, and it was lovely to see a friendly face from home. We all had pasta and a glass of wine, very civilised. Eileen recommended the hot chocolate - heated chocolate in copper jug accompanied by a jug of heated milk. You mix as you desire. Yes this has to be the best hot chocolate anywhere.

Checking out leather jackets meant it was too late to be bothered queuing for a SIM card - tomorrow is another day!!

Hi Fern. Great to hear from you. Now you know someone once told me that what happens on tour stays on tour ... lol. However I will say "hi" to anyone you might know ;) As for Neo, I'm best to give them a wide berth I think. Cheers.
