This morning I woke up at the hotel at 6am...probably due to the heat but also a bit nervous/excited about my first day of work camp..I hung out a bit and enjoyed the beautiful view, did a little yoga in the yard, then grabbed some breakfast. As I sat down to eat, 2 people (the only non-Indian people I had seen in the town!) were at the table next to me, as soon as I sat down they asked me if I was by chance there for FSL and that is how I met Carlota from Espana and Andeas from Germany; who instantly were my new best friends by default. After breakfast we all walked to the bus stop together where we met the rest of our work camp..all 16 of us from all over the world...it was one of the first times I've felt really happy and comfortable thus far, so nice to meet so many people in the same situation as me and they were all quite jubilant as well. From there we took a bus to eat lunch which was another new experience: no utensils! From here on out we eat like the locals: only using our hands. Have u ever tried eating curry on rice with only your hands? And no bread to assist the process?...it was very interesting and actually kinda fun, lots of laughs as we watched each other try and master it. From there we were taken to what is now our home for the next 3 weeks which is in...say it with me "Parassinkadavu"...a small town about 20km from Kannur. The location is incredible and I am stoked we are actually in a house but it is still only a step up from camping, and sharing 2 bathrooms with 15 others is already interesting. Only one bathroom has an actual toilet and shower, the other bathroom has an Indian toilet and a hose and bucket you can use to shower. But the location and the people make up for these small annoyances and we keep reminding each other that we are all just way too spoiled back home!
