World Cup Fever

I´m back in Argentina again! Decided spend the last few days on my South America trip in Mendoza to laze, eat and shop. And what a time to be at Argentina! Realise that Argentina is playing against Serbia and Montenegro in the morning when the people at the hostel were planning to go to a nearby pub to watch the match. Was pondering if I should join them but thought getting my return bus ticket was more important.

While walking along the streets, realise many shops are closed just because they are watching the match. And almost everyone on the streets is watching the match. Some in their own shops, some run from their shops to the other with TV, some just standing in front of electronic products shops. Whenever Argentina score a goal, the entire town will burst into cheers. The drivers will horn, while others will blow their airhorn and wave their country flag. After the match concluded, the whole town started partying. A major road was closed just for people to cheer, dance and party. The town was almost painted blue (their national colour). Many people, even dogs, were dressed in the official jersey, Argentina flag tattoo on the face, and clappers in their hands. There were police on standby in case the crowd gets rowdy but they too were full of smiles, like they wanted to be in the party too. Though I was pretty afraid the situation might get chaotic but the atmosphere was so good that I was still tempted to go close to watch them party, and even attempted to snap a few shots 😊

I really admire their sports culture here. If Singapore Lions were to get into the World Cup, will anyone start cheering for them in Orchard Road (if they win)?

Lions in world cup
If our Lions get anywhere near the World Cup... i would cheer like crazy for all the matches even if they dont' win any prizes :)
