Hi there!

Departured from Athens in a night ferry to Crete Island - single room with bed, privat bathroom, TV - 60eur round trip!

Once you arrive at the Heraklion portyou can either go to the left side of the island, wich, forme, it's the best - Chania and Rethymno - or to the right side Lassithi...

When we first got there it was a little bit disapointing because we were expecting those caribbean style endless white sand beaches and hollow water and istead we've got face to face with rocks at the beggining and dark sand latter... that's what you get when you plan your trip the cheapest way possible- we had to walk about 15 min. everyday to get to nearest beach, from our hotel...

Despite all the disapointments on the arrival and after coming from a dirty and smelly Athens, we were finally at our "beach" vacation time!

There's not much to do in Crete beyond going to the beach and enjoy the warm water of the Aegean Sea - I didn't spend so much time in the water since I was a kid...

You have a lot of excursions to some interesting places like the Minotaur Labyrinth or some beautifull landscapes, most of them in the south side of the island.

We took one of them to one of the most beautiful and paradisiac places I've seen: Elafonisi!

It's a whole day trip trough the northwest and west coast - 38eur per person - with some stops at some interesting points - like a village were you can buy a bottle of fresh orange juice and warm cheese pies, for lunch (meals are not included). Our guide was amazing - really funny, spoke in english and german the whole trip and was very helpfull.

Our final destination, as I mentioned above, was ELAFONISI...! There were the beaches and landscapes I was looking for! Endless sea coast with pink sand - really pink sand! - and warm and crystalline water. It's said that around 1800 the Turkish slaughtered women and childreen that were hidden in the caves and that's why the sand is pink, due to the blood...obviously that's a myth and it's kind of hard to witness the pink sand in the photos, beacuse every year millions of tourists take a sample of pink sand in a botle...

Anyway, it's really worth buying this excurtion for only 38eur and witness this nature's wonder...

Beyond the island landscapes and beautys we have good mediterranean and greek food - must taste the Gyros Pita, but try the plate version, with greek yoghurt sauce...! - and one of the things greeks are most known for- their amability and hospitality! Despite the fact they are in a deep economical and social crisis, they always have a smile to offer you!

Cheers,
JM
