It Ain't Half Hot Mum

Waking up at the crack of dawn thanks to the noise of dorm rooms and the pain in the ass people that should pack their bags the night before, anyway enough of that.

We decided today that we were going to go to the Polynesian Spa and have a bit of a therapy session. The pools were great but there was no one to give me a massage so that was the only down side. The pools ranged from 38 degrees to 42 being the hottest but even that sounds a lot hotter than it actually was. I swam for some lengths in the 38 degree pool but soon found the effects of heat pretty tiring so moved on to just lazing about in the pools. The view from the lakeside pool was amazing. You can check it out for yourself. The people using the pool all seemed local and you had the usual sort of characters using it to cure all sorts of ailments something that I believe does work.

After this we decided to go Zorbing but after getting there we felt it looked a bit hyped up for something that you did when you were 8 at family picnic’s that being rolling down a hill getting chucked about by the ground so we knocked that on the head and headed south towards Taupo.

After getting on Highway 5 as they call them here we headed down to another thermal pool area about 27k south of Rotorua this was one I was looking forward to as the pools are different colours and have been created over hundreds of years of thermal and seismic activity.

The pools all have very sinister names such as The Devils Bath which is the lime green one and the craters equally like Rainbow crater and Inferno crater . The place has a certain air of isolation especially as I was one of about 8 people I saw visiting the place, Siobhan was waiting in the café as it was another pool and another lot of mud to see bubbling I was happy she just did not drive off!.

The landscape is very surreal as it looks abandoned and barren in places but the waters and pool are alive in a strange sense.

So after making our way from here we headed to Lake Taupo and the glorious day we were having I hoped continued as I knew that the Tongariro crossing was a very weather dependent activity and this would be my next location done “Mount Doom”.
