Kevin asked me why I took out my camera when I saw the bulldozer. I guess this happens regularly on French beaches?!
I left my friend Kevin at the train station and met up with my 2nd couchsufer, JD. He picked me up in his company car and took me back to his place. For a living, he drives up and down the French Riviera stopping at ports and selling mostly wines to cruise ships. I'm sure tonight ill be drinking
well! He makes his own schedule so had plenty of free time to hang and talk with me. Cool job, huh?

His place was small but cute with huge windows looking out over the park and the ocean. It was a bit strange that on couchsurfing he didn't advertise his guest having to share a bed with him! A little out of the ordinary but in the end fine; I slept well.

The first day in Cannes I got situated, then walked down toward the festival to get a glimpse of the beaches and the crowds. Kevin met back up with me and we got burgers and Americans (burger and french fry sandwhiches on French Bread- wonder why they call them Americans when I've never seen these in America?!) and sat on the beach.

Later that afternoon I left

The beach we went to in Cannes. The sun was brutal!
Kevin at the apartment and walked down to where all the action was to find Ben. We only got to hang out for a 20 minutes but it was great to see him. The festival was crazy, I knew I wouldn't be able to get a ticket but just being there during such madness was exciting! Then I returned to hang out with JD and Kevin and we talked for a while and watched French reviews of the films at Cannes. All the news casters were making fun of The Da Vinci Code, was not surprised, Ben told me that all the critiques laughed during the final climactic scenes of the film!

Kevin and I went to Chinese, my first Chinese food since December! Then we walked around town and absorbed all the action. I really like Cannes, it's very cute with a lot of great shops and restaurants and it seems that the people are very down-to-earth and can appreciate art (otherwise they wouldn't agree to host the festival). The next morning I slept in and then met Kevin and we went to Marseilles just so I'd be closer to Dijon when I left the following morning. Like

Couchsurfer host #2
my first trip there I wasn't all that impressed with the city but we had a yummy dinner and walked around the port which was nice and relaxing. Sometimes it's nice to have company while traveling although I don't like negotiating my plans when moving from place to place to I tend to leave my acquaintances behind when I move on to another location.

As for my French, Ive started to speak in semi full sentences and I can read almost everything without a problem. I think ill buy a book and study it on the train, since it will be useful if i ever relocate in Europe. Ok just about had it with this keyboard, hope all is
well back in the states...
