Hello!

This is the first chance I've had to start our blog! Our flight here was fine, I thought the time went really quick but we did have a TV each so we could watch film after film after film. We were 'nearly' late for the flight as Matt and I were desperate to get our large collection of toblerone for the flight... however we got to the gate around 10 minutes before anyone else, as you can imagine mum was just stressing. We managed to get some sleep on the plane but I can never sleep very well on planes! Mum and I had a little chinese boy next to us so every time I needed the loo I had to climb over him ha ha.

It is SO hot and humid here in Hong Kong, but it's nice!! Our hotel is lovely, we even have one room with a Harbour View which is pretty incredible - The symphony of lights will look amazing from up here! We went to a market last night which sold pretty much everything. For our tea we went to a busy Chinese restaurant where we had a right selection of authentic food... it was all delicious. The markets were really busy and we soon worked out that the way to lower the price was to ask how much something is, then walk away saying you won't buy it, then they chase you down the street offering you a lower price, bargain! However at one point, two ladies nearly kidnapped me whilst offering me a free massage, mum had to drag me away! After that we went back to our hotel; I fell asleep straight away (I'm amazing at dealing with jetlag) but the rest of the family were up at 3 o clock.

Today we had an early start! We went on a really steep tram up to the peak which gave amazing 360 degree views over Hong Kong. We stopped for a nice hot choc before going back down to the 'mid-level travelator' which is an escalator which goes from the bottom of Hong Kong island to the top. Typically, we went to an English pub which served things like 'The English Fry Up'. The boys also had some beer... No surprise there - it was very expensive!! We then walked to a lovely Chinese restaurant passing through numerous markets where there were some hideous meats hanging up, geese, chickens, pigs, all with their heads still on. There were even fish that had been cut in half... clearly very recently as you could see their heart still beating! Matt wanted to do his good deed of the day by buying the live ones and putting them back in the sea, weirdo. We ordered a huge variety of different dishes again at the Chinese restaurant. Afterwards, we looked around a few shops where we met a nice man from LA who was telling us about couch surfing (where you stay at peoples houses for free and then they stay at yours for free...). He told Matt how he was trying to hit on me but it didn't really work ha ha! We then got the 'Star Ferry' back to Tsim Sha Tsui and collected our tickets for the Harbour cruise later on this evening with a free bar! We are currently in our hotel room snacking on our cakes we got from a delicious bakery earlier.

I will update again soon! Feel free to comment. Sophie 😊
